Weekly Update
Well, this week was a lot of fun...
As you probably read on other posts, our ID's overflowed the 32 bit longs that they are stored in on the client and all hell broke loose. I spent most of my time this week trying to fix this problem by converting the ID's on the server into the same format as the client so there wouldn't be a mismatch. But even after that fix, there were bugs with negative ID's, so ultimately we are havng to reset the uni to keep the game playable.
Before this happened, I was rewriting the two functions to sell items to bases in order to get rid of a small bug and to reduce lag. These new functions are now in the game. You may notice that while it used to be that when a slave sold 10k units of something to a userbase and you were sitting in it, it would lag the whole game out while 10k packets were sent to your computer. Now it is instantaneous and only sends one packet. Buying from bases still uses the old function and causes lag and I plan on rewriting that one this week. Hopefully replacing these trading functions should eliminate the major cause of lag left in the game besides the normal vagaries of the Internet.

I can actually see now that You (Admins) waste a lot of time and shit on this game. You used hours and hours to fix this thing as quickly as possible.
I just realized that you don't get even near as much respect as you should get.

Me and nely lost an OS6 to the rollback. I've been mentioning the packet problem for ages, others too. Really happy to see it adressed. The slaves and colonies(!) trading was really bad.
As much as I've disliked the recent periods, I gotto applaud the admins for stepping up so quickly. Whenever the game is unplayable (a.i teleporting, can't login cause the player ammount exceeded the amount the variable-type for returning a value could hold, server down cause the host thought there was an attack at the uni reset) they always fixed it really soon. Great job on that.
Now give us our OS6 back :p!

good bug fix; however it was disappoiting having the universe end this way - most people lost a fair bit of playtime and resources.
I like the idea of the mini trial universe !!
