Passive vs Active radars
So from day one I was using passive radars (ping) and they were mkay, but just recently I found that active radars are like 4x better and take less elec than passive radars.
I compared a Hawkeye Radar and a Red Nose Reindar, the results are absurdly retarded in my opinion and the passive radars need a beef.
The Hawkeye Radar has Detecion: 248 and the elec usage is 1/s, when you ping it (250%) you dont even get 1000 detection and that takes 214 elec every ping which doesnt last long + gives you 100 visiblity on top of the 7 when equipping. Note: tech 19 radar
The Red Nose Reindar is different, it has Detection: friggin 5000 and costs 10/s, also gives 85 visibility compared to the 7 of the hawkeye, but thats without pinging, if you ping with the hawkeye its 107, even then you use more elec, more vis and see 5x less. The Red Nose Reindar is tech 17.
There is soemthing wrong from my POV and that radars really need a look at...
I was testing them both and heres the results:
With hawkeye I can see player from approx 600 without ping, 1000 with ping. With the reindar I can see from 5k+ without ping, for less elec, less visiblity.

Re: Passive vs Active radars
Hawkeye was supposed to be 1450 detection iirc.
However, an admin did say that some passive radars were kinda OP, and they were intended for really stealthy people who needed to see the direction their enemies faced.
IE: A seer.
So, if theres any bug or problem, it's that the vision stat of the passive radars are very low compared to what is needed. Yes, passive radars have more vision than active, but it's not even the slightest enough. 3.5 vision over 3.3 vision isn't what I'd consider a big deal.
Seeing how the ping won't do much to actually see stealth gunners/snipers.

Re: Passive vs Active radars
The only reason for a sniper to use a passive radar is if they can't be bothered to toggle an active one.

I dont really need to deactivate the radar at all, the visibility doesnt hurt at all... I think the passive radars should get a bit more detection so they are on par with the active radars when pinging (since pinging takes elec and you actually have to press to see)

Re: Passive vs Active radars
With seer I use passive radar and I almost never ping. Both types of radars have their advantages. Why not carry active and passive radar with you and have them hotkeyed?

The stats of my pasvie radar is 2k detection ping bost 75% for some reason i dont se that even close to needing a beef and i defenetly dont see it as useless

Re: Passive vs Active radars
When i remembered to bring it i always used a passive radar but only due to the amount of mods it had on it. I found very little difference between both types.

Re: Passive vs Active radars
I used to have a whole bunch of Heavy Bloodstained Ares Radars, and I had one with a *(Transcendental) which was awesome, but only for AI that I normally could see with a Hullet Radar. For anything else I loved Lion Flairs*, and for more stealthy ships I used a Red Nose Reindar*. When you are stealthy, the little added visibility from an active radar means so little, so I don't see why anyone would use primarily a passive radar. What you want is to carry one of each at all times for stealth classes.
