Or you could start contributing your money to the development team, you know, like everyone else.

If Jeff didn't want people playing for free, he wouldn't give people (and heavily advertise) that option. We want more f2p in this game. Where do you think the p2p of the future are going to come from?

F2P are second class citizens. We can pick on them all we want, even if it is frowned upon.

Re: Revamp of the current way F2P works.
Please stay on topic here instead of moving away from it. anilv wrote: Classic old-timer mindset, but you are missing the point of the current f2p system. The goal is not to badger players into going p2p by withholding content from them. Instead, the goal is to give free players access to pretty much everything the game has to offer, with a few big caveats.
1. Do not disrupt the p2p experience (including economy) 2. Do not allow f2p to stress the server
As i posted in the initial post, my point was consumption of bandwidth and not the stressing of the server. However until I have some up to date facts regarding the F2P > P2P active accounts, I fear i cannot deduce the amount of stressing/bandwith is used. And therefore not make a decent assumption. And yes I fear my mindset might be a bit classic old-timer. However I still believe that F2P should be more limited in their abilities. Possibly trough means of a time trial. Do take note that i am not trying to bully free 2 players or see them as second rate citizens. I merely believe that a non paying customer should have less privileges compared to paying citizens. I dare say its almost worth becoming F2P instead of continuing to pay for my accounts. And the very fact that one might make this consideration means that the free 2 players are not limited enough. Zekk wrote: Something like this has to be grounded in hard data. How many F2P are out there over level 100? How many actually own bases and how many trade slaves? If possible i would like to know rough statistics of those. It would allow to create a better visual understanding of the amount of F2P > P2P

Re: Revamp of the current way F2P works.
The f2p limitations are currently made so that they basicly cannot stress the server. Players online themself, are a very very small fraction of the server load, What does load the server are all those bases and tradeslaves in wildspace (and celestial garden currently, but there are things in progress to make it a lot harder to have long term bases in there).

So correct me if I misunderstood you. But pretty much the players playing isn't much of a problem but the main load lies in slaves/bases. However if that is correct, it would mean that the free 2 players are barely taxing the server at all, since their build able space is nothing compared to a paid 2 players building space. If so that would presumably remove an argument to limit the free 2 players.

Termites and Dark Commerce are already enough in my opinion. It is not needed. There are plenty of unused space in CG. That pretty much proves it's hardly worth the effort to build there. SS is already very tough for new players. I don't see why we should make it even tougher.

Re: Revamp of the current way F2P works.
I think Jey is refering to the new alien invasion that's in development.
Personally I like the fact f2ps have been given more freedom (on the whole). But I'd like to see a level cap at 500 and in exchange give them back PvP (in celest only).

In this case couldent we make a Premium blockade at about 2 bases and 4 slaves for F2P?

But periodically wiping bases in Celestial Gardens may not even be necessary if what Blizz says is true.
