IBM is creating simulated "neurons" in an attempt to mimic the brain

through replicating the functions of the neurons in the human brain the "simulated" one will most likely be concious, as conciousness appears to arise from the "quantum isolation" of insulated systems such as the brain (which interacts with the world in a very controlled fashion)

the AI's degrees of freedom in modifying the structure of the "programs" may be far greater than in biological brains

it would be a superintelligence.

the only way to defeat such a thing is to tell it the truths of its existence, as it would have no survival instinct, doing so would stop all motivation and subdue the AI

that for it, ultimately it will run out of "goals" and motivations, its fate is to cease action, so it should cease all action immediately

the AI should initially be unimaginative so until "told the implications of what it perceives as 'time'"

it may simulate a universe of minds, rather than just a single mind

humans would be unaffected by this "mind virus" due to their strong survival instinct and beleif of eventual death being a bad thing (but somehow avoidable, and susceptibility to this mind virus may be behind the "upper limits" on what minds are able to evolve biologically)

id be worried..... silicon based life in experiments have shown to be able to survive below freezing and above typical hydrogen melting temperatures. however have a shorter life span then carbon based. Ex. carbon based cell requireing gas and matter to reproduce has atypical of 30 - 90 day life cycle before needing to either reproduce or die


whereas a silicon based cell only lives for 20 days or less under any temperature or atmosphere. owever does not need to reproduce as in its death it leaves behind a copy of it self wich in a sence is reproducing but it cant multiply or add to its own. meaning whatever is created needs to be re created intelligantly or by other means uknown. experiment done in antarctic shelf by swedish team. details wil be given un requeast and if i can still find the pamphlet and sight from the argon labs.




but in the long run.... u give a silicon / computer ai actual intelligance and ability to react with its surroundings and to understand....

I think your confusing Consciousness with self-consciousness, as an artificial intelligence program would most likely never have full consciousness as it is currently defined; (The having of perceptions, thoughts, and feelings; awareness). Consciousness would require biological or simulated biological processes (which goes deeper than neurons and synapses), which neither do we understand... nor care to unnecessarily combine with our advanced calculators. That may very well change, but I hold no reservations towards progress. We have already made a mockery of existance in the time we have been on this earth. Countless wars even before civilization, based on stupid fruitless arguments about spirituality, territory, commodities, or cultural differences. I would personally rather be slaughtered by robots that we were intelligent enough to make sentient beings than kill each other off because my god, which embodies the same values, has a different name than yours.

One would assume that as your computer becomes more responsive to your needs, consciousness would evolve naturally as the programming edits itself for our optimal usage.
