I'll laugh if Iran tries to start something.

Currently America is experimenting with railguns that can speed a ~10 pound projectile up to nearly twenty thousand of miles per hour, we have the largest "defense" budget of the next top two or three countries behind us COMBINED, along with the largest navy the world has ever seen. Not to mention the fact that we have tons of military bases surrounding the country and we could probably win the war without losing a single life because of our superior drone technology.

well, the iraqi army got its ass handed to it in 2003, but the war didnt "end" after the invasion

all that will happen is the regime in iran will be destroyed, while the hatred and fear it brainwashed into its citizens will come back to bite the US. the more sanctions that are imposed, the worse the citizenry will be affected and the more receptive they will become to the "death to america!" message of their iranian leaders.

the invasion will destroy lives, lives of people pre-conditioned to become islamic "jihadists" when pushed. its not much different to suicide bombing, using propaganda to precondition citizens to violently oppose all occupation even at the cost of their own lives and then PROVOKING outsiders to invade and occupy

That is what the USA is waiting for. All these sanctions we put on Iran are just trying to provoke Iran so we have an excuse to go to war with them.

Even though the article speaks about how the EU cut off Iran from the world economy.

It doesn't matter who cuts Iran off. Once Iran throws a punch, America will be all too ready to retaliate.

and when the iranain regime is reduced to ashes, the citizenry it oppressed will suddenly have a nostalgia attack, and decide "oh no, we dont like the new guys either"

and before you know it, the US military is tied down in yet another arabic country, significantly weakening the country as a whole, causing political strife and giving extremist fringe groups a chance to grow and become powerful (like how the tea partiers appeared, except for every other political ideal, from communism to anarchism)

come to think of it, depite the cost in blood, it may be the best thing possible for the US and its allies, because it will take things out of the hands of the "puppet masters" and shift power back to the voters

kinda like the vietnam war...

to extend the analogy, iran and north korea (maybe pakistan, idk) are the two columbine shooters. the USA and the rest of the world are the other kids, some of whom impose sanctions/"attacks upon the ego and self esteem" in retalliation for negative social behaviour (basically all the shit the iranian government does to its people, and the way it acts internationally). these sanctions are the "torment" which destroy the self-esteem/economy which provokes attack from the ego/government which upon retalliation is destroyed, leading to the emotional breakdown which triggers the shootings/jihad/intifada and the reformation of ego/government

people are the same, whether at the individual level or at group level.

and just like at the individual level, the "bringer of justice" is looked down upon for their actions

this thread is now about batman.

This is a fairly decent analysis, except that it leaves out a couple of details. Number one, Iran isn't, as you say in a different post, another "Arabic" country. Iran is a Persian country. The racial difference is small, but the cultural difference is huge. As someone who has spent quite a bit of time in an Arab culture, I can tell you that it is not very well suited to life in the modern world. Persian culture is different and in many ways much more suited to modern life.

Second, I keep hearing and reading that the population of Iran is ready for a democratic revolution - that the theocracy controlling the government there is highly unpopular. I don't know how much of that is truth and how much is propaganda, and I have no way to find out. However, if there is a lot of truth in that statement, then a quick military defeat of the theocratic government without a prolonged occupation would be a more likely possibility. Remember that the main reason The U.S. was forced to occupy Iraq was to keep Iran from simply walking in and taking over the destabilized country.

If the population really is ready for a democratic revolt in Iran, then it would be best if they could accomplish that on their own or with just a bit of "behind the scenes" assistance from the West. The problem with that is compounded by the fact that there will inevitably be other nudges coming from China and Russia, who both profit from the current status quo in Iran. Any time you see revolutions and wars in the Middle East, you have to remember that those are proxy wars between the world's great powers, much like the Vietnam and Korean wars were power struggles between The U.S.A., the U.S.S.R. and China.

the "revolution" of the 70's in iran when some guy was assassinated, only served to install a theocracy

and when you consider the events in WW2, you have to recognise the nazis had a pretty good relationship with many arabic leaders, who gladly took up nazi'sh beleifs about obedience and faith
you're thinking "they already beleive that stuff!"
these beleifs were incorporated into psuedoreligious leanings by the natives
you're thinking "thats all stuff they were already doing"
the name "iran" means "land of the aryans" in persian.
and this is where you realise that was the whole point.
how long before they reinstall a theocracy? what if it actually can do real damage, like the nazis who promised them freedom from british rule
radical islam is a symptom of conservative islam, nazism is strikingly similar
a long occupation would only worsen the problem
this is not an analogy. this is history repeating itself infront of you.
setting the stage somewhat similar to post WW1 europe, with the germans pissed off at things resulting from the war, making conditions right for an extremist leader to take power and stir up shit.
nothing cosmological. just similar patterns appearing in human culture.
