So I just deactivated my account on facebook.. anyone else absolutely hate it, or is it just me?

Main reasons for hatred:

- I find myself pointlessly reading peoples status updates despite knowing that the vast majority will simply annoy me. I can't seem to stop myself doing this.

- Idiotic, racist, ill-informed statements about political situations in which the most ignorant individual usually gains the most likes by merely being the most offensive.

- Hipsters posting music.

- Chavs I was unfortunately friends with in high school who are now pregnant or on their second child already.

- Constant stream of friend requests from people you don't know and would blantently blank you if seen in public.

- Girls complaining about a variety of things that do not concern me, nor ever will.

- People who constantly post pictures of their food and/or animals.

- People talking about drugs daily when you know full well they do very little if any.

- People who always talk about going to the gym, we get it, you can lift so much weight, I go to the gym too, i've even seen you there failing to lift lower weights you proclaim to warm up on. Stop posting pictures of yourself in vests, fuck.

The list goes on, and there is a myriad of reasons still to list. You may say de-friend all these people but some are friends I like in person, but do not like on facebook, do you have any of these? Also, If I de-friended everyone who annoyed me I would have very few, and these would only be people who very rarely post and i'm likely to see these in real life anyway.

I guess the point of this is to ask you whether you feel the same, whether you have more reasons or perhaps reasons you like facebook. Ultimately, is facebook a force for good or evil in the social REAL world.

I have facebook, but I never use it because of some of the reasons you posted.

Deactivated mine ages ago, best thing I ever did to my spare time.

Sometimes you organise hangouts and parties over FB. Lotsa stuff you would miss without FB. Also it's good to see how you did the night before exactly if you can't completely recall! If you know what I mean

I'd love to see some research on how many hours each day people spend on reading information on Facebook that they classify as un-important or not relevant at all to them.

I don't have a problem with it and I'm not trolling I'm actually quite serious. Has Facebook become to mainstream for you?

I agree with both sides here. I to find myself pointless checking status updates of folks I hardly even know or hardly see anymore. At the same time it helps me stay in touch with certain awesome friends of mine that live far away, friends who live closer and as someone said, event organization.

There are some really awesome aspects of it like the group part and the mailing function which pretty much supplants email 100% for me.

Being able to keep photos of the past in 1 place in such easy reach is great as well.

I simply stopped using it so much but the ability to is awesome. You can waste time doing pointless stuff anywhere, I mean, look where we are right now! As long as you enjoy the time and learn to control it then it is no big deal.
