Re: Dynamic Team Limit
Who would it be boring for? The people on the super teams? If so then they'd naturally split off, wouldn't they?

To clarify here's what the questions about it(and no limit) seem to be. *Low point pirate teams can still be dangerous. -Big teams might help against that, "Attack one of us, and your against all". *What would prevent the majority from joining one team? *How could it be ensured, that the bigger team really is more powerful?(SWAT teams) *What to do with alliances?(splitting to smaller teams to avoid the restrictions) *Lowering team score is too easy

The problem I find is, that if we have 2 Super-Large teams, the chances of them being evenly matched is very low, infact, more than likely one would be far superior to the other. Making the game boring. I don't want the game to be boring because that means most of you will quit and then sit next to me in the quitter's lounge ./shudders. Bleh! I hate you all.
Timmeh Regretfully .. I agree with this :'(

Re: Dynamic Team Limit
I don't think they're worried about Super Team vs Super Team. From what Jeff_L has said in the past, it is Super Team vs Much Smaller Team, that he worries about.
Put Psionic Corps, Red Faction, Eminence Front, and Resident Evil under one roof and it should be able to compete with SBP. However, thats not what they seem to be worried about.
Imagine that, against one team roughly the same size as the four teams individually. It's the USA vs a team the size of RE. Not vs DM. Or maybe reduce old DM to 1/3 its peak strength.
Without the ability to be mobile in a war*, would you call that a war, or a slaughter?
*Meaning, pack up bases and move all your ships and a good portion fo the base gear to a new place without a /Limbo command. Being able to access ship and gear builds by doing missions instead of actually building it. Etc.

Re: Dynamic Team Limit
To reiterate my question which has not yet been answered to my satisfaction:
What is actually wrong with super-sized teams?
- Super team versus small team happens even if you don't let people formally all join the same team. Cf. Pants versus everyone. This is a non-starter.
- (Time Warp) if people get bored all being on the same team, they will amicably split off in most cases. It's certainly not a sure thing that they'd get KOSed by the remaining team for leaving. I have not yet seen any convincing argument that allowing super teams to form would cause stagnation.

Re: Dynamic Team Limit
And not to mention that there will never be just two big teams. I know this because there are people I would never allow on traders, and who SBP also dont like. Not to mention there are plenty of people out there who want to lead their own teams, not be part of one of the "big" teams.
Like enk said, we already have large groups of players who work for a common goal and are entwined in every way possible except being on the same exact team (Traders+DT, SP+BP).
All the current system does is make it more of a hassle (not harder) to communicate and have fun enjoying the game with the group you have chosen to play with.
It would rock to hear from Jeff or someone concerning this possibility for the uni reset this weekend.

Re: Dynamic Team Limit
There is no way this is happening this weekend. The end of the uni is hectic enough as it is. Most new uni changes are finalized a month in advance. Besides, the Development Team hasn't even had the opportunity to discuss it yet as we've been busy with other stuff, and our content lead has been sick.
