Post Dear Spatzz; Reguarding Eragon
G'day All,

I just got back from a cruise, and I finished Eragon: Inheritance whilst I was there. This is a topic responding to Spatzz's hate towards Christopher's writing of the book. I wasn't bothered to go search for the old topic, and I cannot remeber most of the reasons so you'll have to restate them so we can discuss it in the topic.

Personally, I didn't mind the ending, I do have a couple of gripes though:

1) Contradiction reguarding Arya's true name. In Eldest, Ornimous is discussing true names with Eragon and how to discover them, in this he says '....Elves instinctively know theirs'."... However in Inheritance Arya describes her true name being discovered after being left alone my Faolin.

2) The way in which Gabaltorix was slain - Could've been drawn-out more, have him cry in pain and really describe what he is feeling, and kill himself, other than Eragon killing him. On that note I felt more emotion and detail was needed in MANY parts in the book.

3) I always hated this about his writing style, the persistent-need-to-use-hypehns-and-dashes-for-nearly-every-word-and-name. It just grew tiresome, I remember I set of 3 of 4 pages where near EVERY word was hyphenated!

4) There was one more contradiction and I can't remember it.

It's relatively late at the moment so my spelling of the Character's names is wrong, and my arugments poor, but I'd lke to read the responses. Overall though, I enjoyed the book and am at peace with the ending, save some minor gaps in information and plot.

The ending was really bit of a let down and was not (i think) "clever" at all. Almost as if Paolini went....fuck it, and wrote what first came to his mind.

It was foreshadowed in the previous books, it was always coming. Also, you cannot have any other ending, there just is no other way!

I also just remebered, I disliked how it was so similar to the other 'boss' fights in the books. He and Saphira fly away to an ancient cabin and are rewarded with things and then go and win the battle, mreh.

I think i said before that the book lacks true imagination. I mean stuff lik Eragon transforming to half elf half human, thats believable (Sort of). But his discovery in the 4th book that allowed him to stand a chance against Galbatorix is just one huge impossible deus ex machina...

His half elf/human qualitis as well as his induction into the Digurist Intergum (or whatever, the Dwarven clan Orik leads) is an integral part of who Eragon is to the rest of Ale-blah-blah-longname. He is a part of every race and no race.

However, I do find it annoying that he gets all these gifts bestowed upon him and he still fails.

Wasn't arsed reading comments, while Christophers writing style wasn't great, overall, the books were quality. Sure, there were bits to gripe at, there are in almost any book, and certainly if you take a certain stance while reading them you can find qualms if you look and judge, but I enjoyed then thoroughly.
