Re: Wikipedia joins the bandwagon
That's pretty cool. I wonder if Google will follow suit.

Re: Wikipedia joins the bandwagon
i hope it does pass
not because i support it, but because i know the best way to get people to hate it, is for them to experience it
the majority will not do a fucking thing, until they are forced to. we can tell them it will be bad, and that it must be stopped, but they wont give a fuck
the only way they will realise what is at stake, is if they lose it, and have to fight to get it back
SOPA must pass in order for freedom of speech to win.
because if SOPA doesnt pass, they'll just bring another bill, which could be even worse than SOPA
whereas in the aftermath of SOPA being revoked, noone would even fucking dare put forward another censorship bill, SOPA would be fresh in the minds of the people, and supporting a censorship bill would be political suicide
the only way to rally support for a new censorship bill after that, would be to become a matyr, to die for the cause, to piss off the anti-censorship supporters so much that they try to kill you. and i cant see anyone who would be willing to die for someone else's profit
allowing SOPA to pass, in all its horrific glory, is the best thing we could possibly do to preserve freedom of speech in the long term

Re: Wikipedia joins the bandwagon
I'd rather it just didn't pass and everyone get really pissed if it does. Obama had millions in Washington protesting when he talked about healthcare. The US government actually has to be very careful with what they do. Prohibition is another example.

Unless Americans all of a sudden think they can come invade china to censor some bullshit. Most of the DNS requests for the planet are routed through american DNS servers. Pretty sure even China's are, but might be wrong on that.

Google's homepage is a censor bar lol. Also so are most pirating websites.

Re: Wikipedia joins the bandwagon
Reddit's going down for half a day, tons of tech-themed websites have at least something up to protest.

Prohibition is another example. exactly. the same retarded fear that drove the opposition to obamacare, will obliterate SOPA once it passes the difficult part is explaining to the retards that they should be afraid of it, because SOPA actually IS the free-speech killing nazi abortion that they assumed obamacare was it isnt just difficult. its impossible. the only way they will realise that SOPA will hurt the internet and free speech, is for them to WITNESS it happening, for them to have their favourite sites shut down for their own sake, we must allow SOPA to hit them, because if it doesnt, they wont ever hit back, they'll be too busy trying to stop abortions and gay marriage god it pisses me off that the majority are clueless... it undermines democracy to the point where our governments can barely function and are filled with parasitic scum that arent doing the jobs they were elected to do tl;dr - ronald regan once said he often pondered how quickly all our differences would dissapear if we ever had to go to war with an alien enemy, politics is the same, perhaps SOPA can be that enemy

Re: Wikipedia joins the bandwagon
I agree with demonblood a bit here. They will only realize it is bad....When they see what kind of impact it has on the world. Though as a person who loves how the internet works and how every one can share the views, ideas and such, I would hate to see this pass.
