Is Free Market system Fair?
Hopefully i'm in the right place to ask this , but the GOP believe that a free market system would help stimulate the economy . I would like other point of views.
By the way . My point of view on free market is that its not fair. These big companies gamble money in casinos we call the stock market. what happens when they lose? What about these companies that are too big to fail? what about them? I believe a totaly free stock market would not be fair because the things that was put in place to make sure the adverage joe was treated propery. When they go under who fixes the problem? the government.

Free Market is as good as it gets. Effort gets results, in other forms of economy, effort gets results for others.

Re: Is Free Market system Fair?
The Free Market system works ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL...so long as efficiency is low enough that everyone can have a job. Think about it; if it takes 100 workers to put together a car, that's 100 people being payed per car. Sure, it might only be a few dollars per car, but that's still money moving around.
Now imagine that you replace 90 of those people with machines that do it better, faster, and for 1/4th the cost. Suddenly you are paying around 5 dudes to repair a machine and 10 people to make the car, instead of 100 people.
Where do those people go to work? They have to find somewhere else. But wait, EVERYWHERE is becoming more effecient. Nobody needs them anymore. Imagine for a moment that McDonalds makes a robot that can do everything a human does right now. Rather than having 12 people per restaurant, you have one tech per region that goes around repairing the machines, and unskilled labor is permanently removed from the system.
Eventually, everything breaks down, because the money pools with the people that can afford the startup costs for the machines that run everything. But what happens when nobody except those people have jobs, because of those machines? The system becomes unstable; the money ceases to flow. It gets stuck, and soon the entire economy falls like the Dark Tower of Barad-dûr in the last Lord of the Rings movie.
Sooner or later, it's coming; we will have to change the system, or watch as it collapses beneath its own weight. The only question is when.

Re: Is Free Market system Fair?
As I think Cyg is saying, any intro to Econ course will teach you to weigh efficiency and equity. You can't have max both at once. Where you choose to land in the middle is the crux of the issue.

Woah, I haven't even taken a course on this and I'm already college level! *Whistles*
Don't congratulate yourself yet. Econ 101 was the most stultifying course I ever took in college and one of the few I regret having taken.

Re: Is Free Market system Fair?
the free market system is like a wild enviroment, communism is like a zoo, and socialism is like a national park zoos have shitty diversity and if the people in control arent doing exactly what they need to, everything goes to shit. (soviet russia is a prime example) wild enviroments often have good diversity, but are inherently unstable, and they are in no sense whatsoever a "fair" thing as brutal natural selection pressure is at work creating functionality, by killing off companies that are struggling (post 2008 USA is a good example, mostly because the people in charge have failed to do their jobs. so its like the bad stuff from socialism, without the good stuff. great work republicans!) the best system we can hope for is one with the best of both worlds, where there is a leadership system to take over in the event of a crash or decline, but the leadership does not interfere in detrimental ways (australia is a good example, government management during the 2008 crash meant australia suffered the least of any developed nation in terms of job losses and economic decline. and no, they didnt "fuck around" with the economy, they helped build it in such a way that when the crash came, it survived easily. that is socialism.) people try to avoid using the word socialism since an extremely large group of fucking retards refuse to understand what the word actually means (socialism is not another word for nazism, if you think it is, go read a fucking dictionary)socialism is what we have in most western countries. the problems we are experiencing currently are not a problem with the system itself, but with those in charge of the system, their lack of action, their inability to prevent the economic conditions which led to the crash, their failure to DO THE JOB THEY WERE ELECTED TO DO. and we dont really have any other option. a true free market leads to monarchies that monopolise bussiness, socialism doesnt work as well when the leader is a fucking idiot, and communism completely falls to peices without good leadership the free market, is a system which ASSISTS in the mistakes of management trickling down on the workers, like a stream of liquid shit. i dont call that fair its the exact opposite of fair DITKA wrote: I have initiated a preemptive strike on landswimmer as a result of this topic. You're an idiot, shut up. okay. heres what i want you to do. take your opinion, and fuck yourself with it. vigorously. until the blood works as lubrication. and then keep going. because im not going to shut up. the very fact that you want me to shut up, will make me NOT shut up. because fuck you.

Re: Is Free Market system Fair?
and thats why you cant fight trolls.
chaos always wins, it is entropy, disorder
those on the side of entropy always win, those against it always lose
a fundamental law of the universe applying to a thread on a forum.
noone ever really wins any argument, we all just pick sides that existed long before we did. im just good at picking which side to be on. and the tendency of people to take notice of everything except what you want them to take notice of.
