New 3d artist
We have a new 3D artist on the team to help us prepare for the new client we're working on. Here are some of Daniel's first 3d versions of Star Sonata ships:
Differently Angled wings on the Wyrm next to the old one
3D Anachron next to the old one
Top View of the three 3d ships with some different coloring scemes on the texture maps
3D Roswell next to old 2D one
New ship (no texture) with a Jupiter and dynamic lighting from bullets

Man, if I could only do textures like that! Pretty good models too. I can model, but if I could only do textures well...

If you just use the current sprites as textures on models, it actually looks somewhat decent and is a good starting point.

Just wanted to show my umm... dunno, but those look fantastic! Very good indeed.

Are you going to remove the particle effects? It would be a good idea because they cause alot of lag.

Particles cause client lag, so its down to your computer, maybe make it switchable or have a frame rate cap, or both.... Cant see them removing just because your computer cant cope... (I'm only on dual 1ghz p3 with voodoo 4 so I cant see that its going lag anyone much)
Those ships are great I like the psuedo 3d effect they have and with the new client I expect they'll look really professional and will be a great boost. I hope you can do something about some of the ingame physics too
(ships turning from the middle, bullets etc...)

From what I've heard, Client v2 is going to be done in 3d, but it won't change the gameplay style at all. Still the classic top down shump that it always was, just with a graphical boost.
