I agree that the current diffuser system is unbalanced. Why should energy and laser damage be so easy to protect from? However, it will be a nightmare to rebalance matters the way you suggest, even if you do come out with higher-tech versions of Reactive and Volatile diffusers that function roughly like the current ones do. At any rate, I would recommend that you not worry about the PvP aspect of lasers, since there are plenty of alternatives and most ships have good laser resistance anyway.

Well, one thing you have to keep in mind is that lasers just aren't as much fun as other types of weaponry. Having a limited but significant amount of challenge inherent in hitting your target is a big part of making it fun...as a gunner, i know this better than most classes

Yes, that's why things generally have better resists to lasers and lasers do inherently less damage.

Just from looking at the title. These lasers can't even turn bread into toast because there so bad!
Nerf down the hit rate modifier that makes them so crappy in your balance sheets for the higher techs please!
Only real laser I consider to use is a the medium laser at lower levels and perhaps the Mad Thorax (which I know it isn't a laser really).

Imo, lasers (and energy) should be taken out, with the current weapons changed to different damage types, and the crits worked around so that you need a seer for most of your critting/disabling/gremming needs.

Yeah, I would kind of like to get rid of the laser damage type, too, since it doesn't really make any sense. It's a delivery method, not really a damage type. I feel like at this point a major revamp on damage types wouldn't be the best use of time, though.
