There are no secrets, it's just logic.

Btw can you make slaves scriptable????

I mean:
If ($energy_lvl < 800) {$weapon_preference = $weapon_1}
else {$weapon_preference = default}

If you could just tell slaves exactly what to do in what occasion if would work soo much better.

Making slaves in SS be scriptable would be really awesome. I've never done anything like that before, so it's hard for me to say how hard it would be to implement on our side, but I think it would be no small matter. Someday, perhaps... someday...

well, a scripting language wouldnt be that hard compared to many other stuff in the game. But even tho i would love it, i would prefer slave being easier to control first lol. Then thinking about adding some neat stuff like script (unless it would be possible to script the way he follow us around).


What would be really great is to leave the complete liberty to the player to set his slave (a few default script to copy the current behavior should be disponible for non programmer fellow) and it could give some other way for people to make a little cash (not too much tho) by doing somehow like a programming bay station, with whose you can sell scripts to other people. I would love seeing something like that lol.

And btw, i plan on beating your friend on bithbath :P, lets see if i can do it hehe.

Scripting is quite hard, and frankly I don't think there's a huge demand for it. Not that it has to be insanely complex, but I doubt all of the hundreds of players could script, or would like to.

I do remember from some games though where you can choose from general behavior scripts. Basically alternations to the artificial intelligence. Like in KOTOR you could choose to have your Party-NPCs use alot of grenades, use alot of force powers, etc. I think such minor /fixed/ choises, such as keep X distance or use cloak in fighting or do not use any tractor at all, would be nice, and it'd be alot easier to program.

I think general scripting for slaves is probably unnecessary. With the added right-click commands for slaves in client2, people will have a lot of control over slaves. Then maybe if we made some simple text commands like /slaveuse DeathWarmedOver and then allowed you to hotkey text commands, that would give even more control over slaves.

It would be awesome to have a simple programming language for slaves, like

etc. Shouldn't be too hard to implement and would be uberly awesome.

I've always thought that it would be awesome to be able to truly program slaves down to every little detail. Think of it Jeff, if you made it complex enough then the stupid AI that slaves have could be feature. It could be the crappy default preloaded windows software that needs to be replaced by the user ;D

Can you make slaves use weapons based on energy reserve?

Say you have something big for burst damage once that's done use something else to finish the target off. Because right now they refuse to use lower DPS weapons even if they don't have the energy for firing they wait for regen and then fire. Meanwhile they could cause alot more dmg with other weapon.

The way that slaves and all AI ships work is that if they have more than half energy, they will choose their preferred weapon based on both dps and dpe. If they have 90%+ energy, they will choose their weapon solely on dps. If they have less than half energy, they will choose their weapon solely on dpe. This is their preferred weapon, though, if they have a shot with another weapon and not their preferred weapon (like if they have a 360 degree laser and the target is behind them) they will still take the shot, even though they are low on energy.

Well I put Panther Paws and Zigzags on slaves, seemed like a good idea. Burst DPS to kill as much as possible and then finish off. By default the DPE on Paw is better, but the way resists are and the elec zigzags take to fire they will do more dps then fangs at regen DPS. Can you maybe make it the elec to fire instead of DPE then. Because right now it sucks.
