Salacious updateâ„¢ 03-14
As Jeff mentioned, I've mostly worked on basic code (rather than game features) recently: Improved handling & logging of memory allocations, which has allowed me to identify and eliminate hundreds of megabytes of wasted memory -- as well as a few memory leaks -- and changes to the saving algorithm, which should allow much faster (and thus more frequent) saves. I hope to improve both of these areas further In The Futureâ„¢.
I have also made a few more immediately obvious changes: The tractor power subskill incorrectly boosted both range and efficiency, which will be fixed in the next patch. This means that tractor ranges will effectively be halved for people with maxed subskills (old players may recall that at some point -- about a year ago, maybe? -- tractor ranges suddenly doubled, with no explanation; this is just a reversal of that bug).

So my grav4 will now only have 500 range?
IMO you should just leave it as it is, its not like its overpowered now

You might want to look into making the tractor range subskill at least somewhat better, that way people won't get all mad when their tractor's range gets nerfed.

So if tractor power has been doing range and efficciency have those two subskills been doing anything at all?
I have range and power 10, if i halved my constables current range it would just end up only very slightly above its standard range.
For someone who didnt get my tractor boosted a year ago this is gonna feel like a horrible nerf. I wont have enough range to tractor boost effectively off of anything, a very useful tactic in a ship that goes 89 speed.
Please beef the range and efficiency subskills

About time that got fixed. Tractors have ridiculously high range when done correctly atm, and engi's are evil.

Currently, the power subskill boosts power, range AND efficiency, while range boosts range and efficiency boosts efficiency. Thus with all subskills at 14, you get 4x range and 4x efficiency. With the fix, all at 14 will "only" give 2x range and 2x efficiency (which is certainly enough of a boost from the subskills).
With subskills at 10, the range reduction will be less (from 2.65x to 1.63x). If you don't have the subskills, there will be no change.

I have a decent tractor, constable is the pinnacle of mid-price tractors, without shelling out billions I will be lucky to reach 450 range.
We all liked the tractors current stats, no one had complained. Why ruin a good thing?

Constable with maxed subskills gave ~1200 range before, it will have ~600 range now. That's plenty.

it's only the high-end tractors that are overpowered. Constable Tractor and down are fine imo. Instead you could just half the other tractors' range and strength that are above Constable Tractor and keep the skills as they are.

yeah, this is a double edge'd sword, id imagine, with my thrust skills, and top speeed, there wouldnt be alot that could hold me in place.
tbh, i just thought the range was normal. I'll dig out my tractor 20 Subskill's suggestion in a sec.
