Progress update:
I haven't gotten terrible much time on the Maya-toting computers at the studio over the last week to work on UV mapping, but I got the map done today and began work on the texture. I'm trying to emulate the original sprite's texture pretty closely since I like that texture, but I think I need to stretch out part of the UV map on the cargo section to keep the texture from stretching too much. Anywho, hopefully I'll have this completed by sometime next week at the latest.
Pic of the texture in a very rough state is attatched. Also, I removed the spoiler-looking thing because the more I looked at the geometry where it met the hull, the more I hated it.
(I'll likely add a structure in its place for an Assault Behemoth.)
