tarnished imp chests would be suitable for anything you might accomplish as a squad/team (e.g. emp team, certain boss killls...); i can't think of anyone who would wouldn't benefit from tarnished chests...

otherwise... trophy ships/skills, as already mentioned by many others... on the ships side, something aimed at being T18 slaves with like mini mastadonte or mini rhino gfx would be epic.

If you can't automate keeping accounts that registered after C2 beta starts, worst case scenario you can just copy over the characters by hand by querying the database while both servers are offline.

I think it would be extremely beneficial if new accounts stayed persistent at the end of Beta, otherwise you'll have some rage-quitters.

A few ideas, lots of the ship prizes say "player modified" this is basically a nerf or beef to them so they can be suitable for player use..for example a player modified forgone wouldn't have the 8 aug slots like the AI one has.

A scenario similar to this would be pretty cool. Allowing players to obtain ships that are otherwise unavailable. But maybe make it so, the "First XAmount of people to...." Rather then the first.

To get prizes, make sure you log into the beta with your existing C1 account. You'll have all your char slots open. This way, we can tie the prizes to your C1 account, and you can redeem them in C1 for whatever character you want.

its the only reward that will actually be appreciated and keep SS1 players on the beta, rather than only playing it at the start, and moving back to SS1

Eww, no. This will only happen once, make it something more unique than that. Custom ships is a good choice, it sets you apart from the non-beta players and gives an actual incentive to help test stuff.

Read what I wrote. Unique custom ships are not supposed to be powerful and will only appeal to collectors like you. Other people would prefer Tarnished Imp Chests and levels of Imperial Tweaking.

How about achievements done get you "Client 2 Points".

At the end of the Beta, you can use them like a form of currency for various prizes.

That way, if you like a trophy ship, you can get that. If you feel that a few TIC's is better, it's ok; thats an option too.
