So, here it is, almost completed:

Quick filters on top for easy sorting. Almost all item types have their own icon for easy sorting etc. Current count of icons is 42, no pun intended. Obviously the list doesn't show them all but you get the general idea.

The equipped/unequipped has another state... the "sticky"... means that you can equip usable items so that you don't transfer them off the ship accidentally.

Even added a search field that should make thatch/sphere browsing easier. All the numbers are random, just to show how it would look if you have a lot of something.

Hovering on the item will invoke a popup with the stats and stuff... but that's soon™

Is there a way to have an optional filter for "Base Gear"? basically all Base equipment, as well as a separate one for "Blue Prints".

Also, is there a plan for custom filters? ie. multiple filters combined into 1, certain items only(drag and drop?), at the users choosing, with a custom name.

Interesting... I assume this is some kind of collapsed view, or is that ship really carrying thousands of an item called "commodities"?

If there isn't a way to collapse the list, that might be a good idea. :)

It's just a PS render... the numbers are there to show the way the list can expand if you store commodities and such.

And the the names are just the item types for now, to show that there are no more 100000 items with just the "item" icon and all mixed up. Like all the different fighters will have the fighter icon.

Also not sure on custom filters, would need to talk to Armen and BS to see how difficult that could be.

I love it, though it's a pretty large window and I hope that somehow it will magically become as small as the current one (though it may already be, I don't know)

If your current filters work by assign the item to a "category" wouldn't you just need to add in the capability for more than 1 category attached to an item, which is the name of the new custom filter.

i.e.

I create a custom filter called Filter 1.

I get a drop down list (which is similar to the current trade bay list, in that it shows you basic stuff + what you've seen in the current session)

I tick an ion peashooter+, a PWI and a yallow in the list.

The peashooter would originally have a weapon tag for example and the others their own. Once selected and finalised they would receive a new tag called "Filter 1" that would make them show up.

Obviously i don't know how the coding for the game works, or if what i assume is anything close to how the items are actually categorized into a list, please feel free to tell me if i'm completely wrong :P.

So you thinking gear sets I guess. If you make it the way you describe it will be almost unusable and it will waste more time setting them up then the possible time using them, not to mention making the UI cluttered.

I guess in the future maybe some type of collapsable folder of gear like biggee suggested.

Keep in mind that in SS2, your inventory list will be closed almost all the time. You drag anything that you often use or equip into your top hotkey bar. The inventory is mostly for when you're docked at a base and are moving things around.

just a little thing... the icons look wonderful except for some that have changed... just like the old shield and energy icons more than these new ones shown here. The new energy icon looks like the old engine icon. Also microwarps and aura gens look almost identical. Just from experience with the current icons it was easy to confuse weapons, energies and engines. But all in all i love the wide variety of new icons :D

Especially love the fighter and missile icons.
