Post Re: New review of SS
The review is dated Aug 28, 2009 for those of you who are wondering. I wonder how far into the game the reviewer got before writing the review.

And why I actually remembered it after several years of not playing or even looking at the forums.

One thing that should be kept up on with SS is reviews, mainly because advertising, word of mouth aside that's all we have. Especially need to go out and find as many mmo / gaming sites willing to check it out once client 2 and some more stuff is added.

Sound "and" music wise I think the game could use some more advances there but save it for after core things have been appropriately funded.

No, it's not music. The admins have not learned this valuable lesson:

SOUND DOES NOT TRAVEL THROUGH VACUUMS although the sound helps the experience. The ambient stuff is... meh

I believe that at one point the admins said something to the effect of: "Your ship makes various simulated sounds to make the visual of your enemy being blown to bits all the more satisfying."

To get technical, there is a way to hear some sounds. Your ship has a "shield" around it, presumably some kind of force field. If this was activated while still in the space station, planet, or some other location with an atmosphere, some would become trapped in the bubble formed by the shield. This would then transmit the noises made by the anything that touched it, like enemy bullets.

As for your own bullets/engine, you would already hear that. You are inside some type of sealed container filled with air (at least I hope so, because we've been playing as zombies without knowing for years otherwise). The noises your own ship makes would be carried through the ship as vibrations, which you could then hear.

We could go on like this all day, trying to prove and disprove all the little technicalities. It's a game, a game with giant rats living in space who throw crap at you from their faces. Realism isn't that important.

Post Re: New review of SS
maybe it should be made so that you can use the game itself as a music player so u dont have to run Windows media player in the background.......

imo, when C2 comes out, maybe add in a "accumulative levels" system, which gives players 2-5 levels per 24 hours untill they hit level 1k (as long as they log in every day on the account) on ONE char to make it so high level players can get more alts without having to take playing time away from their mains and negatively affect their income(because lets face it, leveling a char the second time around is boring as shit)

other than that, its a pretty kickass review, u should try to get as much circulation of it as possible, like add a "reviews" page to the SShomepage which links to all the reviews of ss, like the ones on IGN and other places "much better than any other game that shares its genre" is a pretty damn good tagline.....

Post Re: New review of SS
i have read a review a couple years ago that said pretty much this.
personally i turn the sounds off, it came to the point where i was too addicted to quit and not mad enough to enjoy the "ambiance".

sadly it seems sanity has its drawbacks..

though this part made me laugh.

want to make Starsonata get more players? alot more? google "good game abc"(or go to http://www.abc.net.au/tv/goodgame/ ), register on the ABC forums, get someone to start a thread asking for the show to do a review on SS, and support the shit out of it

http://www2b.abc.net.au/tmb/Client/Board.aspx?b=59

a few dozen posts might just get them to do a review

once that happens, the SS playerbase should increase dramatically (tens of thousands of people in australia watch the show)

once that is done, do the same thing for game shows in the USA and canada

and then we should have ALOT more players

but jeff will probably need to be ready to get ALOT more server space or something....

and possibly instance the preload

It'd be a better idea to do that AFTER C2 comes out.
