New review of SS
At least, I hadn't seen it before. http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/Star-Sonata/re ... ual-MMOersSeems fairly positive to me.

Re: New review of SS
I'd agree with most of what that review has to say, and this bit make me lol: Quote: The sounds are terrible (and I mean TERRIBLE), you'll be hearing nothing but sounds generated back then during the DOS games era.

Re: New review of SS
Hmm, a fair enough review really. It's a shame that it came now, just before C2 will be released. It might be worth sending Onrpg an e-mail to ask them to do redo the review once C2 comes out.

Quote: The graphics are outdated but they are still impressive, since making it better would be irrelevant for this type of game. lets hope C2 will prove them wrong.

Re: New review of SS
Yeah, I think the sounds comment isn't horribly unfair, to be honest. We did spend quite a while maybe a year ago looking for some better sounds, but it was extremely time consuming with little to show for it. Not sure how much it would cost to outsource the redoing of all the sounds to a professional 3rd party studio, but it is probably worth it with SS2 coming.

Re: New review of SS
Heh, 99.9% of the playerbase just plays with sounds off, and listens to music or something.
The review seems good, but I don't get why they insist SS is for the "casual" gamer. It is somewhat lacking in content atm, mostly for endgame people, but there's still loads to do.

Re: New review of SS
Flash Games on Addictinggames.com have better sounds then SS.
As yug said, i have played without sounds since day 2.

Re: New review of SS
Sounds aren't too bad, but not really on par.
I dont see what could be done about them though.
If the sounds were out-sourced the studio would need to know what they're doing, no point paying for a load of old rubbish.
"and your ship may even change its shape as you continue to distribute more points."
I dont really get what he means by this, is he talking about when you buy another ship to use?

"The game doesn't offer many tutorials so you might as well jump in and hope that you get used to it before you get blown to space dust." got that right

Mikkel wrote: "The game doesn't offer many tutorials so you might as well jump in and hope that you get used to it before you get blown to space dust." got that right Good at keeping people who use tutorials away! Real men dont read instructions! And if they do they read them in a language they don't understand.

Re: New review of SS
Quote: The game's controls are easy to get used to. It's actually more of the primitive tank controls which consist of: left, right, and forward. A bit confusing at first, but you'll grow into it as time progresses. My sentiments exactly. The game needs a better tutorial, not more controls. Like I said in my post about the "space anchor" implemented in the test client: Quote: The game might be complicated, sure; but so is chess. Anybody can play chess if they know how the pieces work.

Re: New review of SS
The learning curves are kinda separate
basics = easy
really understanding the game is much harder, which separates SS from all the other MMOs I think the learning curve is alright the way it is.

Re: New review of SS
This review is rather accurate I think. The sound isn't all that great. I play with the background music off and the sound effects down to 40 and listen to music while I play. xD
A good review, but I think it may have come at a bad time. On the good side, this could increase our playerbase a bit, but on the negative side it could keep people from playing that would be more interested by what C2 will look like.
