Post April 20th 2009 - Dev Update 12
Hey guys,

We had a pretty short meeting last night. We spent a decent amount deciding on some code designs for C2 and assigning some tasks for it. Other then that, things are progressing well, we should have the patch tonight or tomorrow night. Jey and I worked on the guest system last night and should be able to finish it up tonight, which is the last big thing before we can patch.
Jey is working on a system so that we can patch things individually to the live server without causing conflicts later, so after this it should be easier to patch bug fixes and such on the fly.

We also discussed the following:
  • Laying bases in other team's owned galaxies (by having an owned galaxy of your own next to said galaxy) does not give you instant aggro to that team as it should.
    • Will be fixed (HAL)
  • Very many ruin items are overpriced.
    • Ruin cost multiplier will be looked into. (Paper Tiger + Jeff)
  • Stop low/mid level Ais from running away.
    • No. There are plenty of tactics to keep them near you. AI that are overpowered for their level will be looked into though. (Jeff)
  • Why was the Interdiction Frigate taken out of the game? Will it be put back in?
    • The ship will remain as a trophy for now.
  • Armada drone maluses... should they be removed?
    • Will be looked into. (PaperTiger)
  • Fermium Extractor cost too high?
    • Fermium extractor is three times as powerful as a prototype extractor and can be equipped alongside them. It's expensive but worth spending money on.
  • T20 skills requiring both mission and commodity is redundant?
    • Mission requires a person to participate in at least one run and sets level limits for core skills. Commodity requirement creates a market for them and makes obtaining core skills a bit more of a challenge, which is okay considering the current boss spawn times.

So, out of interest, how will this guest system work exactly?

I am the one that asked The Voomy One about this in-game. I was about to buy one, but wanted to be sure it would not be re-added. He talked to some other admins, and told me that it was either removed accidently or the reason it was removed no longer mattered. According to him, an admin would be re-adding it whenever they were in the mood to do so. Whose information is more up to date, his or yours? :?

Also, if you suddenly care about preserving rares, PLEASE answer my support ticket! Longer you wait, the worse it will become....

It will not be added for now.

I have transferred your ticket to Jeff from Jon, since Jeff should know more about it. Should be taken care of soonish.

Ok, thanks for the info. Good to know it is being looked into, at least. :)

Information posted here is more up to date since it was discussed in the meeting on Monday.
I actually added it to the game but we talked about it a bit and I took it out again. It should be added again at some point, we just need to figure out what to do with it.

Make it Seer-only?

I'm curious as to why it was removed in the first place. Was the aura still imparting an effect while it was in stasis or something?

It was added as SD only so it will stay SD only.

IIRC The reason it was taken out was due to Wasup using 3 of them as slaves to lock Reaver into Nihilite a few unis ago.

That problem was double solved.. they removed the ship AND auras on capships.

Overnerf FTW!

Wow, those are stupidly exploitable, especially now that stealth slaves are possible. Make a set for pure stealth, give them no weapons or tractors, tell them to guard whoever it is you wanna annoy. Once they are near the wormhole, they will thrust little to none. If the person manages to kill one, you can just revive it while he is looking for the other 2. They will even stay there when you are logged off, if they are set to guard. Alternately, you could do the same, but set them to guard a wormhole. Noone from the team you are at war with would be able to get in. Especially broken on galaxies with only 1 way in.

But why not just tweak the aura and give us our cool ship back? You could instead make it an item with a cooldown timer, that would pulse the aura for a set amount of time when you activate it. It would also let those pointless auras you gave SDs have at least one use.

Combat slaves stay inlogged when you log out if they are set to guide an area or guide an item? Don't think so.
