ya know, there IS a distance meter in the target view
(at least, there is one now, please please please keep that after revamp, really helpful for anything ranged longer than your screen can view)

this is looking so awesome, the only worry i have is that my PC might crash instantly upon playing it's great uberness, so evil as is Cthulu, so good is this looking, so many skulls has Khorne on his throne, so many tears of joy shall be spilt over this, so many years stretch forth the plans of Tzeentch, so many people shall be overjoyed at this achievement of such great joy as the plagues spread by Nurgle.

long story short:

(no other game has such a great investment -> result ratio, a complete graphic overhaul, by the dog of the creator, that's huge)

It would really be

Light Speed - high quality, low fps
Ridiculous Speed - medium quality, medium fps
Ludicrous Speed - Low quality, high fps

strangely enough when you think about it, it makes sence XD

For all you impatient ones out there I'll give you a basic rundown of all the things that still need to be done. Even though it's looking ok right now I still feel we are barely halfway done.

Here are some things that are still missing from C2 (And hence they were not in the video):
- Worm holes.
- Lasers.
- Visibility (Making ships go transparent/invisible when out of radar) and cloaking effects.
- Bump mapping, planet atmosphere scattering, planet specular effects.
- Getting all the ships looking right, this means all the special effects e.g Rosfire, inferno, volt, etc and making the cockpits have a seperate reflective material from the rest of the ship.
- Warping effects.
- Explosions.
- Revamped star map.
- Heaps of UI improvements.
- Better background, planning on throwing in some bigger stars, etc.
- Better performance for low end.
- So much more little things, bug fixing and tweaking all the old C1 values to look good with C2.

As you can see theres still a long list of stuff left to do, and that's just a quick run down, it would be several pages long if I was thorough.

Anyway wish us luck and hopefully it'll be out sooner than expected. :D

The banking is just where it's at from a night and a mornings work. I think it definitely needs to be tweaked. Currently the max bank angle is based on the sqrt of the ratio of the ships turn speed and the max allowed turn speed in the game. So if a ship turns at the fastest rate possible, then the max bank will be 90 degrees; if it turns at half that speed, then the max bank is sqrt(.5)*90 degrees. Further, the max bank is scaled by the ships current speed over the ships max speed, so that if the ship has speed 0, then the max bank is half of what it would be if the ship were going all out. The rate at which the ship banks is just a percentage of where it's at based on where it wants to be.

It's pretty easy to tweak the above and try variation, which I will certainly do. Probably I will reduce the amount of banking for when the ship is stationary. Also, I'm thinking about somehow changing the banking speed to be based on some sort of bank velocity that starts out slow and gets faster rather than now where it starts out fast and gets slower.

I must admit, I was totally blown away by this. It looks great, even at the pre-alpha stage. Only thing I would suggest is having the camera a little more perpendicular to the ships and possibly fixing the targeting ring (it looks like it has two big kinks in it). Other than that, I am really looking forward to seeing this when it's finished or ready for beta testing.

No, he was just saying what fps you can get on a low-end machine. I'm pretty sure that video was made using high or very high settings.

The video was made using High settings, very high looks even better.

Because there are a few issues that need to be resolved with the very high render.

That is way cool.
The one thing I didn't like was the way the zeb's thrust looked like a rat's tail. All those bright pulses in it didn't diminish. It looked like a strip of paper with holes in it behind the ship.

You guys are doing some spectacular work there. I am anxious for alpha and beta testing to open.
