Obviously, the ocean mask is only for those planets with water.

That black ice planet looks really nice. I'm trying to figure out what that blurry wavey line is on the bump map, though. Some equatorial thing that's on an offset, I think, but what? It make make the planet look a little weird when it gets into the game and is lit.

Yeah, i have no idea what that wavy thing is... i'm gonna edit it a bit, redo the bump map, and see if it's still there

Edit:Hmm... the waviness seems to be caused by the "Real Luna" Feature... which coagulates the land mass, which in turn makes it look like a real planet. Funny thing. Maybe it's because it's a trial version of the plugin? They don't want it to be too useful maybe?

Edit Edit: Alright.. it wasn't that. I bought the lunarcell plugin and it's still jacked up. so not too sure.

Edit Edit Edit: Figured it out. The "Land Texture" is too complex for the "Real Luna" feature. So if you turn down land texture all the way, you get a crappy version of the planet, but it's proportioned correctly.

No, we haven't tried putting it in yet. So far only the low-end system lighting has been implemented, which means no bump maps yet. (Actually, we're not even going to use bump-maps, the bump-maps are the input for a utility that is going to create "normal maps" which are what we're actually going to be using for the medium and high-end systems.)

If that's the real bump map from the moon, maybe it's just an artifact of the data from NASA and that just the best there is.

if we have ice planets, then why not make planets with sand ? or with some lava, inferno planets, moons

So is there basically no point in putting atmospheres on the planets? clouds for instance.

Yeah, don't put clouds on the texture maps. We will be doing clouds as one or more translucent, colored spheres using separate cloud maps around the main planet spinning at a slightly different rate. It should look a lot better and give more variety than simply including clouds on the planet texture.
