I've found out why I don't like the background music. ...I never hear it. I have it set at 75 and it never plays... Its so sad...games loose that awesome "whats gonna happen next" feel when you start to learn more about the game... i just listened to every song in the background music folder... i just realised that i have not heard some of those songs since F2p ... My sounds are very messed up. i (hopefully) just got some better speakers. one sound is too loud...one you cant hear...the next never plays...it might just be my speakers...but whatever...i have to wait till morning to do anything(stupid A internet provider) .... Btw... when is the next patch? starsinc forced me to DL the entire SS installer... it never ran and i couldnt find it???

except that way, it wont automatically switch between the songs,and if it does, it wont be the same,because SS put it in a certain order..and timer... Bleh.

This is more like a suggestion for an expansion of the sounds, rather than changing the existing sounds, but...
I'd like to have a Chat notification sound- a different sound for each incoming channel.
I don't always notice the blinking tab at the bottom of the screen, especially if I'm busy with some uncooperative AI, so I might not notice a Galaxy PM until I'm a few jumps away- and I really don't want anyone to think I'm just ignoring them. A subtle "boop" when a PM appears would really be appreciated.
And for all the nay-sayers out there- it should also be optional so it could be disabled if you're too cool to be bothered.

I haven't started using sound until recently, so I might post more later. Some of these may seem unneccessary, but even a simple click or tap would be better than silence for things like #8 in my opinion. I came up with this list about a week ago before a patch silenced half my sound effects. Not sure if it's just me, so I'll post this anyways.
Additions 1. Starting autopilot needs a sound - maybe make it a beep with a higher pitch than the warp/station selection sound. That way cycling through warps and stations and then autopiloting would sound like starting a race. 2. Drone scooping needs a sound effect of some kind. The current sound effect (nothing) just sounds weird. 3. Drone deploying needs one as well. 4. Suns or cloudy areas that give you bonuses need a sound. Ones that give you immediate things like a higher max shield or faster speed should sound close to a neuro tweak. With ones that charge you or slow down your charging, a constant, barely noticeable ambient sound should be added, different depending on whether your charging is being increased or decreased. 5. When speed is being boosted, for example at a fuel station or a special sun, your thrusting should sound like your engine is in overdrive. 6. AI going aggro to you when you enter a galaxy or when they notice you should have a sound effect so that you know something's coming. Aggroing drones and bases should have a similar sound effect. 7. Selecting galaxies on the map should have a sound effect. 8. Buying and selling items need sound effects. 9. Switching your safety on and off needs two different sound effects.
Changes 1. Levelling needs a different sound effect in my opinion. The current one is a cool sound, but it doesn't really fit (it sounds like something's dying). 2. Give the current levelling sound effect to DG bosses when they die. That would be awesome. 3. Augmenters, neuro tweaks, and regular items all need different sound effects when scooped - for example, augmenter scooping could have a metallic sound. All the scooping sounds should be very short so that they aren't obnoxious, which means the suction sound effect needs to be taken out completely. 4. Some weapons, such as the tracking weapon rosemaries use, make it sound like someone's kissing you when they hit you. That should be changed... 5. Equipping augmenters should have a different sound effect than equipping regular items - possibly the sound of a welder.

firing excomms still makes me cry, and my dwos, and my urqa kas. Why do they make that noise? Their old noise was perfect. A DWO is basically a flamethrowe it wouldnt go beep when you shoot it should make a firey roar similar to the heat impact effect.

Most people seem to what to know when someone got pwned and who did it.
So maybe a good, very embarrassing sound to alert people that someone got pwned, then a graphic to screenie would be awesome! Maybe something under the pod "Pwned by X", good for a big battle where there's several podded people.
