Post Looking for good sci-fi or fantasy books?
I'm looking for good sci-fi or fantasy books. I'll accept any suggestions; however, the two specific types that I'm really looking for are books with strong females in them(like, kicks ass, takes names, solves problems, but not quite as far as, say, lisbeth from Girl With the Dragon tattoo, y'know?), and also stories about people that have things done to them in labs and then escape. Kinda like resident evil, except with more plot and character development and stuff.

But I'll happily accept any suggestions. Oh, and romance is always a good thing, I'm really a hopeless romantic at heart. So if anyone has any good book ideas, fire away!

Perhaps all the ender game/enders shadow books? Was originally about exploitation, which is sort of like the lab thing.

I love those books!

Ben Bova's grand tour is also quite neat.

Into the Looking Glass series by John Ringo
Live Free or Die series by John Ringo
Posleen Invasion series by John Ringo
Von Neumann's War by David Weber
Honor Harrington series by David Weber (Woman as the main character, long series)
Vampire Earth series by E. E. Knight
Destroyermen series by Kevin J. Anderson

Tons of others I cannot think of this second. Anythig by David Weber and John Ringo is a pretty solid choice, if you want something super casual try their joint effort that starts with March Up Country.

For just fantasy I could not more highly recommend The Wheel of Time series

Oh, 1 more awesome one, The Council Wars series by John Ringo, epic pick.

David Weber's "Honor Harrington" series start with "On Basilisk Station" published by Baen books

He also has a new series being published by Tor about a FemBot that sets out to "fix" a few things in order for humanity to survive. The "Safehold" series starting with "Off Armageddon Reef"

And lastly he has the "Alicia DeVries" series starting with "Path of the Fury" and "In Fury Born"

Have you read much R.A. Salvatore? im an avid fan you see... The DemonWars Saga, the Cleric Quintet (both of which have kickass female roles), most of the drizzts books are fantastic. Ah lets see, Garth Nix's Abhorsen Series intrigued me (strong female protagonist). Both a song of ice and fire and the wheel of time are fantastic series. Im somewhat more picky with my sci-fi than my fantasy but I thoroughly enjoyed, The Gods Themselves, by Isaac Asimov and Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress. If you dont mind the occasional vampire flick id also recommend Fevre Dream by George RR Martin.

The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Johnathan Stroud
More than Human by Theodore Sturgeon
The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams
Nueromancer by William Gibson
Night/Day/Twilight/Final Watch by Sergey Lukyanenko

My brother would mention the Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind

But yeah, thanks a lot ^_^

Oh and one of the most light hearted scifi series ever written :Hal Spacejock. If you liked the hitchiikers guide's use of language, you will like this.

Try either The Chronicles of Elantra from Michelle Sagara (/West)
Or The Night Angel Trilogy
Or the Kate Daniels Series from Ilona Andrews
Or Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter
Or Rogue Mage series by Faith Hunter
Demon trappers series by Jana Oliver
A Sliver of Shadow and a Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang
and ofcourse The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson
and Poison Study / Magic Study / Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder
and Storm Glass, Sea Glass, Spy Glass also by Maria V. Snyder
