No, we've moved on to the back burner now. Meaning its not even in production or is but only halfway and new things keep coming up that are less wanted by the playerbase but they're new so they have to come out first.

I'm curious how the alien invasion thing could even work without making all the base builders rage quit. If it's too strong, they'll lose all their base gear. If it's too weak, they'll just ignore it. I guess the middle ground would be that they just pack up bases when they see it coming and take a week or two off of Star Sonata. The problem with taking a week or two off is that you might discover that there's this interesting alternative called real life.

I thought the alien invation was limited to interdimensional attacks against Sol, which everyone had to band together to defend. And didn't loosing that fight mean universal collapse? So if everyone is offline and not working together for a bit, then everyone ends up loosing everything.

Post Re: what happened to the ss2 ending
it was not limited against sol at all. The fact that the design was never completly though is one of reasons its on the backburner.

The basic concept was that aliens would attack player galaxies, (given a x hours/day warning etc). and that if they won they would own the galaxy and drop their own kit/kits. One of the issue is that, the closer you get to sol, the weaker the players are, so as soon as the players in higher df would lose all the players in lower df would plain simply get wtf raped, so to even work, we would need to first change wild space layout to invert (high df closer to the center, low df further away). But then, lower level players would eventually get wtf raped by the aliens / lose their stuff, which is not a good thing either.

So yea, the concept is cool in theory, but lacked ironing and we have tons of other things to do.

The basic code structure for it is done (it was one of the many many things i did, but nexus ended taking all of the content dev attention at the time, so while the code is sorta done (need content to really tweak the code), the content was never worked on.

Have you thought of the real way the universe as we know it is made? Such as Galaxy clusters.

There's been at least a couple of suggestions about restructuring the map (including one of my threads) to be more akin to the real universe with clusters and whatnot. I still think it would be interesting to try, at least on test.

I disliked clusters in Galactic Civilizations and Sins of a Solar Empire, and I'm relatively sure that it's also a bad idea here. Just keep it simple.

Well my reasoning is the universe is bigger than you, so it must be doing something right.
