How much of "American" culture do you take part in aside from what Japan's culture has borrowed from Western culture? Furthermore, how much of that will stay intact once you do live in Japan for let's say 5 or 10 years?

How many assumptions can you make in two posts? And when it comes to "American" culture, what type do you mean? "American" is a very broad term and encompasses many peoples and cultures, and that's one of the great things about the United States. And heck, I've only watched animation like FMA in the last year and a half, and it was an American show that turned me on to it. I don't want to work at an animation studio in Japan, I'm applying for one here in the U.S. And animation isn't my only interest in life, I enjoy history and science, in particular aviation and space travel (if you've not noticed that by now) and I actually want to put that interest into storytelling to get other people excited about learning too.

I eat burgers, I watch English-subbed and -dubbed anime, and I'm an American as much as you are, ass-hat.

(And if this was all trolling, then the ass-hat part still stands.)
