However, for a cult fan like me, the smooth 2D graphics were better than the low poly 2.5D graphics.

2D done well, or 2.5D done moderately? Really, I'm fine with C2. Its just not the same game though.
Its like the difference between any of the 2d Metroid games and the Metroid Prime Trilogy. I love them both, but I wouldn't trade away the 2D games for the 3D ones.

Re: Fuckkk! i really miss this Well, I can understand the cult-fan attachment causing pangs for people. And I do agree that many of the models need work still. If nothing else, maybe just some higher-res textures for the bigger ship models and some tweaking of the normals. I'd do more of it, but other Maya things take precedence.
