so dont act suprised when another bird flu pandemic comes along, allowing the government to shut down borders and flood the media with health warnings, while the rest of the airtime is taken up by people saying "THIS IS FROM OBAMACARE, HERP DERP"

which really only obscures the truth, which is that the US government is fully integrated to handle all external and domestic threats. they dont need to take away your right to bear arms, they've spent the last 10 years perfecting their strategies against pissed off muslims in caves with guns, which isnt much different from "pissed off americans in caves with guns"

science and technology built the USA, the only part of american society capable of staging an uprising at this point, are the academics

and they are so utterly disconnected from everyday americans, and mistrusted, that the people really dont stand a chance in hell

the government itself is what brings the academics and the average people together, and this is how it retains its power. not by doing its job, but by ensuring noone else can do its job.

armies and weapons are nice, but if you want to control people you need something to distract them. like a 2 party system of which each side blames the other for everything and ignores the things not attributed to either party

But my point still holds. Every nation in history that has gone corrupt held power for a long time and every one of them hit a certain nerve that caused an uprising. Be it taxes, food, racial issues, there is a point where the shit will hit the fan for the US government, doesn't feel too far off either.

You can only make your distraction but so elaborate before the distraction becomes the reason itself.

because without all the parts of the system, it doesnt work. you cut one string and it really shows how much of an effect the other strings have.

the "cut string" which broke the back of the third reich was the betrayal of the scientists working in germany. once the government decided to fuck them over because of their jewish heritage, they left, and most of their friends left.

the scientists developed the technology for each side, they chose which side to be on based on their beleifs, and the smart ones, who beleived in freedom and equality, decided to help the USA

I have to say, stupid in this context is completely relative. You're hard pressed to deny the fact that the US government isn't exactly what its founders intended it to be.

Really, DB? The article didn't say they were going to "release bird flu" or that anyone outside the government was paying to have it made. They said it had already been studied in a lab, with some new strains bred, which is how scientists study viruses and learn how to combat them. They also decided that they wanted to publish their methods and results, since that is how scientists go about sharing what they've learned with other scientists. It's called peer review. It's a way to let other experts confirm your results and educate them at the same time. It's kind of an important step in the modern scientific method. The article DOES say that some biosecurity folks have gone over the results that the scientists want to publish and made sure that there isn't anything in there that could aid terrorists. Apparently they even suggested a few changes to be extra sure. You see, it's important for scientists to share their work with other scientists. That's how they learn and stuff.

I'm no fan of big government, but even I don't think they're breeding Captain Tripps to release on the population. Even Obama realizes that he needs taxpayers.
