Post forum trolling is an analogy for the combat system in SS
troll threads are like fights in SS except troll threads are 100% PvP, and experience is literal experience rather than a number based on what you just "beat"
usually, one or two people (or a group/team) utterly dominate the discussion(depending on who's defending and who's attacking, its effectivelly text based PvB, with the attackers destroying pre-built conceptions about the idea which "protect them" from the "truth" of the attackers, which can be considered their "ownership" of the galaxy), with most other people bored shitless and irritated at the fact that one person is dominating (unless they agree or are allied with that person, in which case they're enjoying it, but not as much as they would if they were doing it themselves)

occasionally, a few "lone pirates" will jump in with ineffectual attacks, because they're bored, and at worst they only distract the main contenders (FD/helro for SS, threaten/spatzz for the forums)

when two players equally matched get in a fight, its fun, but it happens extremely rarely, because its like rock paper scissors. someone can have a logical argument torn apart by evidence, but if there is no evidence then that logical argument is unstoppable (kinda like fighting a SHM, if you cant break the regen then you cant win, but if you can break the regen then the SHM has no chance at all)

the way players see a troll thread which they dont care about, is EXACTLY the same as the way a player who is bored with SS sees a fight in SS that they arent involved in. (as in, they wouldnt mind participating, but they know it wont be fun because they'll either dominate it easily or get their ass kicked, all depending on who has done the most grinding for gear and levels/trolling on the forums)

non "uber" players dont enjoy PvP with "uber" players for the same reason they dont enjoy arguing with me. its no fun if the winner is decided long before the fight ever begins.

in SS, the "ubers" are in teams together, the biggest of which is SP, which leads to SP's dominance

on the forums, its me, and a few others, who all agree on a few main things, which effectivelly comprises a team and yes, i do think its strange that the "tobal" saga has effectivelly repeated itself in a new medium
and noone, not on the forums or in SS, can challenge the dominant team, because its all rock paper scissors, and you're stuck with whatever you chose, while the big team has every combination, and can beat you no matter what you try.

it came to me, from nowhere

and i lol'd, because the analogies you can draw from it accurately describe both systems

applying the forum example to SS combat highlights the flaws in the system which explain why "true" balance is unattainable, and shows an "absolute" picture of events

while applying the SS combat example to the forums, reveals the true intent of those partaking in combat. being beaten in an argument is analogous to being killed, the time spent in stasis, corresponds to your credibility and how much you care, while the setup you have for your ship and your class corresponds to your skill at particular argumentative styles

even players have their equivalents within each system

teams correspond to "ideas/ideologies"

galaxies correspond to "argumentative points"

bases correspond to examples of those points, and the "ownership" corresponds to which "idea" is supported by the example
