Jeff let the carebears invade the game thus, Star sonata's new theme song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GReiB-jfr8k

Best part about your video, whoever is doing the recording is pretty terrible at this game.

Hints have been made for a repair revamp not sure how true they are

I'm hoping they are, bit confused why they decided to change the leveling and GG system even though no one asked for it lol...

The repair "vamp," or revamp for that matter. Basically, all gear would have a set "Value" seen by the server. The more powerful the gear, the more valuable the gear, and thus the more you pay to repair said gear.
Tech would be the heaviest modifier, while Tier would be less.
A Tech21 Tier1 Item(Like a Blazing Hammer) would cost, say, 50m to repair. A Tech19 Tier3 or 4 Item, which may as well have the same or more or less the same stats as a Blazing Hammer, would cost 30m to repair.

This system encourages the path of getting Class Skills first, and better gear TIER wise first. Rather than the all too common occurance of TECHing up and using said higher tech gear.

Obviously, a lot of low-mid tech gear will have to be beefed. Some given rather heavy beefs beyond the line into the realm of broken.

In the long run, it is better to use higher tech due to mods(ruins) and overall increases in Power Points. But High Tech has its drawbacks, which is why this system would be in place...eventually.

1. High Tech is much more expensive to repair. When you get into a vigorous war with a determined enemy that never wants to be weaker than their "spawned" team, you'll feel the effects of the higher costs.

2. High tech gear requires more SP invested into Tech Skills. While teching up, you could be missing out on your Class Skills, which a cunning opponent could take advantage of, by using lower tech, but higher tier to keep up in the "Stats Race", the enemy could dump a good amount more SP into class skills for class locked gear or just a vastly improved set of stats.

Using T15-T18 gear and having full SD skills can trump a player still stuck at class skills at Level 10, but T20 gear if both are similarly experienced.

The difference would be that Higher Tier would take some work to get to, just less than the overall work to tech up. High techs' mods make up for that gap left over.

mmkay so pretty much changing the player run economy into a game run economy. i think my nostalgia has ended back to non-carebear games.

How does gear glue have anything to do with a player-run economy? Now people who use the highest quality gear have a higher cost of death to go along with it, unlike before when an Emp Ray and a Iiuqok cost the same to protect.

You should have seen some of the skirmishes in Anatolia last uni.

And the chance to make some poor soul quit. Being a seer, Toth followed an old teammate around and killed him so many times to the point that he could not advance any further and lost all his gear.

Mind you this teammate was using an EFCruiser. Toth was in a Panther.

The best part was that this teammate was a developer. His original work ended up becoming Olympus AI and the Delquad. Obviously, after he quit some other dev(s) finished those things. But the first stages was him.

Toth used the "I was on a team that was at war with me" argument Seronys used against Voomy. But without the banning Sero got.

Has it been really been that long, kane? And seriously Sero, the GG discussion is old hat. You aren't even making sensible points anymore.

I deffo do agree that there needs to be more incentive for PvP, no ideas from my side though.

Most of what Churchill said, but quite a few inaccuracies in his post.

The GG system used to be okay, but it became more of an issue when things got spread out between entry T20 and end game T20. The problems with the GG system is that it cost a level 500 (Eq20 is 450) 100m to die, and a level 1-2k 100m to die.

There was also the further problem that it was just way too easy to run out of Gear Glue, or forget to buy some and loose multiple billions in one death (emp rays, modded gear etc). Which isn't a good system.

The repair system is (or will be) much better. We have some fun plans with it and a few of the classes.

Replace "Will" and "Would" to "Should" then.

The problem I saw was that theres tons of gear, many wonderful and expensive. Rarely did anyone use them.

It was a combination of some items being too weak, most being unknown or rare to the general public, and most being damned expensive to build or extract for the effort you could use elsewhere.

Take a Mzungu Rumble. This is a very rare high end ruin energy. But for its worth, it's still vastly weaker than a Rhino Endurance, which is just a few techs away.

The item is down by 15k bank, 100 EPS, runs on enukes, and is 2.1b extract, assuming you find one. The inbuilts do not counter the fact it uses enukes.

The Rhino Endurance is T20, yes, but is 40k bank, 400 EPS, runs on REGULAR nukes, and is 1.5b-2.0b to buy off the market.

This is a very high tier piece of equipment. It's not worth being used, which is my point, at least compared to a Rend. And this is wasted content.
