Exactly. I would still like to see a swirl, but perhaps not one as tight as the old unimaps. Our playerbase will grow to meet the galaxy size but the issue we have had previously was it filled up and left no space for new players or teams at all through the universe after the first week.

I think we are seeing a slush factor between population growth and galaxy dimensions. A swirl with multiple arms (say 4 or so for an example) for each level of space with the lower df in the center and higher DF spiraling out.

I doubt there is a perfect size or shape. If it is reduced by much it may not be large enough for new players or teams and stunt the game's growth.

I always felt the entire idea of "outer space is full, sorry, nowhere for you to build" was always kind of silly...

The problem with having 4 spirals in that, with so few teams, let alone super power, isolation is a big possibility.

I had a thought, and feel free to shoot it down. But what about a system where each team is given an amount of galaxies relative to the amount of players on their team and that team can then organize those galaxies into any formation they want. Remembering that some gals would be dud's with no commods and then insert a extra 10% galaxies amongst those already choosen to stop tactics from completely going overboard along with no control of jux's. You'd see small teams be able to build in a defensive pattern while larger team can attempt to spread out a bit more.

Lol just reading this I'm already wondering if its a good idea or not.

But I just think it'd be cool to have strategy in it, also not forgetting that even though 1 team may have designed that part of the uni, another could beat them to the punch and claim it.

Make the spirals longer & wider is much simpler
or make a spiral connect to another and they go all around as a shortcut path and the wild-space pattern in the center.

You know I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's actually an excellent point.
