What if AI wouldn't drop specific augs, but something like an aug material. Ex:Minor augmenter(that's the whole name). They could be changed to specific augs with either:blueprints, factories, by using them, or any way that would do best. Why? It would permanently remove 2 problems. "I have a bazillion pointless augs" and "I have lots of every aug, except that one."

I like this, but I can't see how it will work.. some augmenters are worth more than the others. It would be a pain to balance, and would just be better to keep it the way it is now.

I agree. This would have been nice several years ago but it's too late to change things around. Furthermore, T21 modules do a much better job of requiring a diverse aug set. Really the main thing that messes up an even supply of all types of augs is asymmetrical drop rates due to inbuilt ones (e.g. Good Elec, Exc Stealth).

I can see this as being a complete alternate to camping for Augs. I like it and do not think it would be an either or issue. Why not establish a skill set and make augs buildable from certain raw materials. For example,
Sup. Fading Augmenter some high level cloak some microchips some dark matter some credits and of course some fine space whiskey

Who would ever spend that much for a Sup. Fading augmenter? I wouldn't mind some alternatives to acquiring augs. In the spirit of the original suggestion, how about this: Turn in a tech N aug in exchange for a tech N augmenter core. Do missions/buy augmenter blueprints that take a core of the appropriate tech, some credits, and a few appropriate commodities (thinking bronze+vis, silver+quant, gold+energon, plat+DM like for ada modules). So you could build a Sup. Recovery aug out of any Sup. aug, 1 plat, 1 DM, and some credits. And the drop tables breathe a sigh of relief.

Have a certain line of new AI drop tiered generic augs like the OP suggested. Lore: An organic machine type AI that adapts it's augs based on its current situation. Drops minor-sup aug "cores" depending on what AI you kill in the family. This would inherently balance out the asymmetrical drops since people would use them for damages/shields etc. instead of the more common ones.
Could be a new zone dedicated to this new type of AI; i'm sure a content dev could go crazy with the actual zone.

Higher tier/level AI would also have an inbuilt modifier to give them a higher % chance to drop higher tech aug types.
This way it would make all augumenter varients equal in drop rate and create a very set pyramid for numbers per tech. As in for every 20 Minors that drop you will see 10 Basics that drop for 5 Goods that drop and so on.
