It doesn't have close to the highest DPS modifier with zero analysis. Even SD has greater raw DPS modifier.

Generally speaking a sniper has the most dps without SA. Some people can make other classes(SD, Gunner, and Zerk) come close at the exchange of their generic class design.

For example, a SD will no longer be speedy.

A DS SD normally pails in comparison to the dps an Izer sniper can put out for say, Bana. Normally SD's are used for CC because they tend to have stinky dps and are too nimble for a shm to chase them.

Therefore, they don't normally build for DPS and we see the majority of SD's in light weight setups for scouting and annoying anything not a sniper or engineer.


That being said, an SD is still a fine choice for DPS. Just that you won't see an overwhelming majority of SD's built like this.

The problem is with snipers that aug for pure DPS, nothing else.

Spatzz, I'm pretty sure it's not the skills of the sniper class that allow them to solo ubers, but rather the inability of many ubers to protect themselves from the use of long range weapons, or their inability to see stealthy ships.

Not only this, but the nature of sniper analysis is that they have to keep a target selected if they want to keep their bonuses; I'm pretty sure that if all of these currently soloable ubers generated spawn that required the sniper to change target then this would make it harder for them to solo stuff, and would probably lead to more people coming along on runs.

Simply removing analysis or changing the skills of sniper will only result in zones such as Olympus, which are not soloed by snipers, taking unnecessarily longer.

I would also like to say that the constant use of a Prawn as an example of a ship a sniper can use to solo ubers and saying it can be made to pump out 200k DPS is also nothing to do with the real issue here; any other class can take that ship and do broken things with it, which again proves that it is the content at fault here. (Not to mention that only a small percentage of the playerbase can obtain these ships currently, and that they would likely be soloing ubers anyway at the endgame.)

Quick content solutions to these problems:
-give ubers grem lasers that only activate at long range (to mess up targeting and to dissuade people from killing from long range)
-give uber galaxies a GSA/ares arena type system that prevents snipers sitting way out gathering SA then hitting space bar until the uber is dead.
-have ubers generate spawn to force a sniper to either release their target to sort out the new threat or to force them to bring along squadmates to deal with it instead

So, in summary, it's the content not the class that is the trouble here.

What I would really prefer are spawn that have highish speed and low shields, and tend to stay out of the line of fire. At the moment, high spawn shield banks mean there's not much reason for an SD to come along, when realistically they SHOULD be out there cleaning up the spawn nearly constantly.

Also, even lower vis, high bank, high shield regen enemies to make seers desirable.

What I'm trying to say is, don't just make snipers less desirable, make other classes moreso at the same time. Especially the ones that don't come along so much at the moment.

I will admit I am shit at sniper, yet I have no trouble soloing many ubers in an absentis. Yes, it is easy.
