Re: Option to turn off banking
Actually, you're not right about that. At their maximum turning speed, many navy ships, even the largest ones, bank into their turns.

Re: Option to turn off banking
But doesn't it look silly for 100k+ ton monsters to bank and handle like a jet? My shm's Behemoth banks as well as my panther, though of course it's a lot slower to actually move. The banking is huge.

I'm sure you will be happy for slow turning. Yep, a 360 in 6 years, good enough.

Re: Option to turn off banking
Well that's the thing; a giant ship would bank slowly. On the other hand, a giant ship wouldn't turn on a dime like so many dreadnaughts do. If you want realism, why not make ships have to accelerate up to max turn speed? That way the banking would likewise scale(and look a lot better), and the whole dealiebob would be a lot more realistic.
On the other hand, space-breathing rats shoot poop out of their faces.

Solution: SS is not in space. Up is a relative term. There is an up from the space ship, but in space there is no up because you are not referring to a direction based on an object. The enemies gate is down

Re: Option to turn off banking
The funny thing is banking still occurs, just in the opposite direction of the turn in space. But that assumes the ship has RTS controls from 3 planes.

I would actually want that implemented for a week just to see how would it work.

You all will hate Newtonian physics

Re: Option to turn off banking
we SORTA have newtonian physics already. We just have a max speed on our ships, as well. Honestly, the worst part of any realistic space sim is that you have no reference points for your speed, so suddenly you think you're going 10 speed and you're actually going 50000 and you turn into a pink mist before you even realize what's going on.
The thing about SS is that people usually aren't turning so often that they will get to excessively high turning speeds, so I honestly don't think it would be too much of a problem.
On the other hand, it would be completely unnecessary and would probably take a lot of work to balance properly.
On the third leg, it would very possibly be very cool. You can't know without trying it out.
