I've been playing SS off and on for 4 years now. This is actually my 3rd stint coming back. I last played SS back in 2010. If I knew that this new C2 was coming out, I would have never left! I always liked C1, but life just got busy enough that I wasn't going to have a sub and not be able to play it on a regular basis.

I have to say this new C2 is a huge letdown from my beloved C1. The graphics are utter fail, the UI is a clusterfuck, and SS as a whole feels dead. I made a new account so I could test the waters before renewing my sub, but to be honest after seeing C2 in all its "glory" I'm not sure I want to return now...

Is there any possible chance that C1 will return?

Why do I get the feeling that this is bonecrusher?(or some other person who wants to rage but nobody takes their main account seriously anymore?)

Sorry I am not anyone who you are claiming. Just an old SS player who has been gone for a long time.

I've been playing around with the UI a bit, is there any way to go back to the old style UI? I don't see why that can't be an option for us C1'ers.

I've also noticed that my graphics option only lets me choose low. My PC is really old, been in the works for gettin a new one soon. What minimum video card do I need to have the highest graphics option? Is there a significant difference between low and the highest setting anyways?

the reason your game only let you chose low would be either because
A) your graphic card doesnt have at least pixel shader 2.0 support
B) your graphic card drivers are not installed


Without considering the performance, the minimum requirement for each graphic level are.
Low - nothing
Medium - Pixel shader 2.0
High - Pixel shader 3.0
very high - same as high


The graphical between low and medium is quite huge (low is more or less a please oh please work kind of setting XD), the lack of shader support mean no glow effect, no postprocessor, minimum texture quality, and generally just about everything is reduced quality wise.

bored, wanted to resurrect a thread: I paid $50 for my graphics card. I put it in a stock, $300 dell machine. I can play SS on very high with anti-aliasing off.

You should be able to hit medium with a very old machine if you weren't trying to play on Intel graphics.

my comp can play no problem on medium -exeption to galaxies like FM-. and its litteraly held together with cardboard and duct tape. :3

If I am the old scumbag SS player you're referring to: I was able to play C1 perfectly fine on my old PC. The graphics looked great too. No crashes or lag.


I recently bought a new PC. NOT because of SS but rather because I was long overdue. Having played C2 with new PC I retract all of my comments about how C2 sucks so bad. Basically C2 is meant to be played on very high graphics. I get all of the new changes that went into C2. The detailing is amazing. The UI could still use some work though. But they'll get there....

Intel i5 2500k 3.3Ghz CPU
8GB RAM
Radeon 6670 video card

I play SS on low graphics and it looks fine to me...

but think of it this way.... in c2 u can now pan camera's and zoom in and out sort through inventory as u wish from anywhere move most of the information layers such as items on ship team/friend information or w/e u want in any way u want it has become most interactive....


i expect the future of SS to have a inside cockpit view of youre spacecraft and/or base and much more interesting detail... but thats the future.

yes it does suck even for me as my computer is a dinosaur a nice looking one but its 100 % goverment issue bullshit it can burn CD's but crashes on youtube.... go figure/./ SS needs to move on with technology... as the rest ofthe world does...
