New Solar Panel design - Infrared
https://inlportal.inl.gov/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=1269&mode=2&featurestory=DA_101047

Works for ALL stars and has twice the efficiency of normal solar panels.

Someone didn't want to use Apollo/Hades Collectors.

Post Re: New Solar Panel design - Infrared
The main problem with such powerful items is that there has to be a balancing note. You just don't get such good stats without putting a good bullet dent into the Sheet, whether or not JeffL manually breaks it.

We're talking about solar panels that, not only work on both Light and Dark Suns, but is 100% better than any other panel in existence. Also, it is relatively cheap, according to the article.

Such item WILL be applied to the Balance Sheet, whether you like it or not, and to get such stats, some things will happen that you will not like.

1. The panel in question will be big. We're talking about bigger than what Apollo/Hades Collectors already are. So, they'll be in the range of 4000-5000 hull, each.

2. Such panel will be heavy. Base Gear heavy. Test it out by lugging around an Annihilator Heavy Cannon in your combat ship all day long, because that would be a good estimate on how heavy the panel will be.

3. It will be T21, but it will not be cheap. Maybe cheap for someone like Thermal, which would be something like 200b per panel, but not cheap to someone like you. Expect each panel to be T3 Oly Gear cost, or T4(NB) Oly Gear cost. Gets expensive if they were smaller; a Rhino has 20 panel slots.

If you do not like this, or see it as unfair, then be prepared for massively nerfed stats, bringing them down to just being a panel thats 4x bigger in exchange for the ability to work 24/7.

If you're an engineer..., and you are just looking for more elect. I suggest you to not use 3 Gen, and reaug to 2 Gen, AoE.

This is a suggestions board in a science fiction space based game that has rats which shoot poop. Your suggestion to simply introduce a new solar panel type that works on all suns with twice the power, along with being apparently cheap and being based in a current day real world invention is just lol.

I would personally be strongly against a panel working on both suns besides specific inbuilts or panels with low EPS.

I still don't get it that he'd need more elect, unless he's using a Pax Astro. A Heph Machine monk gets ~800 EPS while the GMisd and Charger are charging. And still can nearly power the RR.

Shouldn't he already be in one before he spouts off that he needs elect?

You are not an idiot, stop acting like one.

1. Not true --- It would produce 2x the elect per given size
2. Very NOT true --- It would actually be 1/4 to 1/6 the weight
3a. T20 or T21 yes
3b. Cost wise it should be cheeped than existing T10 solar panels.

They should be built from BPs and have some interesting commods, I.E., not too easy to build.

Their usage would be on ships that are using high elec generators with low regen. (such as the Crystalline Reserve)

Did you even bother to read the article?

1. You contradict yourself.

Quote:
I.E., not too easy to build

Quote:
Cheap.

If it's not easy, the costs go up and therefore it is not cheap.

Ex. 2 of every Research Module, including Hermes. Thats not easy for one stinking panel. And it is certainly not cheap.

2. 2x elect per given size is effectively doubling whatever ....wow, you are stupid enough to word it so that no one gets it.

You INTEND that it would be 'Size X 2 = Elect per 2 seconds'

You TYPED that it would take the best panels in game, and double the elect per 2 seconds. So while you scream at the wall, it was the way you typed that made us not know, to make you scream. You create your worse enemies.

3. Real Life = Not Star Sonata. While you can suggest some stuff to add to the game, blatantly trying to add stuff to the game from other sources is a very bad idea and WILL get you ignored by the admins and players you want to read the topics.

I learned that early on.

Easy to build, works for all suns, more elec, less size and less weight? That does not sound very balanced at all, even for something that is tech 20 or 21

Why would we read an article when on a suggestion board for a science fiction game? All you need to make Sci-fi is an imagination and a thesaurus. Reality need not apply.

So you say the elec/size ratio is double, it is small, and it works for both types of suns at t20 or t21. Lets compare

    Solar Intake . . . . . .BonePanel
    t18 . . . . . . . . . . . . .t21
    size 25 . . . . . . . . . .size 20
    elec 96 . . . . . . . . . .elec 153
    e/s 3.84 . . . . . . . . . e/s 7.68
    weight 46000 . . . . .weight 9200
Random drop. . . . . .Cheap, possibly annoying to build
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . WORKS ON ALL SUNS.

Good sir, are you out of your mind? lol... i just lol.

Weird, you want to use new technology in 2012 to replace the old technology a few thousand years in the future?

Lawl.
