Post Item form ships.
Implement it in game.
To balance:
The item form ship is neurobound.
Make ship sizes a bit bigger again.
Reduce weight a little.
Anything in the ship is destroyed.
Will destroy equipped augs.
Small credit cost associated with tech level.

Reasons:
Fits with sandbox PvP ideals, helps teams beaten in war, helps promote small group/solo PvP.
People can move elsewhere after universe starts, helps small teams.
Paying real money to move game items is ridiculous.

[Edit]
If possible, store equipped augs in the itemform ship. Would make this useful for moving.

You can get your ship item formed by admins. Atm SS offers it as a paid service. You can also get an aug reset done by them as well.

$10 per ship, augmenters and items are destroyed.
$30 for Aug reset.

Though I think fairer prices would be $15 per ship and $20 per aug reset it is still possible and it is offered so that if you really want to you can, and it benefits SS as a whole and means you cant just save creds and crash what is left of the markets.

Can you explain how this is supposed to help players pick up and move after reset?

Neurobinding kind of defeats the purpose. Only possible use I can think of is getting rid of unused t19+ ships w/o waiting an eternity with them in stasis.

But then they would still be sitting in your thatch.

Reason: You can move part of ur ships to new location in case when your galaxies were taken by enemy.

You can already tow though. Wouldn't it make more sense to just expand the towing system than to open a new can of worms with item-forming?

Admins have rejected towing in the past, apparantely max towing fees to move spheres etc. around isn't enough.

The purpose is to allow you to move your "home" area after you dock intially without flying each ship individually.

I said to destroy the augs so it isn't used for aug resets. But if admins can store the augs equipped in the itemform ship that would be much better.

Admittedly with augs as they are people won't destroy them to move the ship. But this would allow you to move multiple ships in a storage ship to a different part of the universe where you would redeploy.

slave an ancient scouttie (AS), do it one at a go. dock switch to AS, go back, new ship, slave AS, repeat etc. thatches would suck but honestly i don't see how you could item form your storage and move it.

Absolutely NOT. Enough with the neurobinding crap. If the ship wasn't neurobound in the first place it should NEVER be neurobound. However I see where TB is coming from on this so just make Tech 18+ ships once they are re-item formed so they can't be traded or sold. (Unless the RC restrictions are modified upward, in which case the tech level for transfer restrictions should also rise.)

thebattler35 wrote:

Yes. Ship is returned to item form so it can be stored or used to make "+" ships. I see this being used to make "+" ships rather than for moving. A ship that has been re-item formed with a tech level greater than max RC should only be able to be removed from the upgrading base by the owner of the ship. (Yeah it sounds like neurobinding, but without all of the other restriction... I.E., if the RC level rises above 18 then a control bot can be used to xfer the ship, which neurobinding would prohibit.)

Credit cost should reflect the ship's tech level. "+" ships should cost 2-5x to item form.

I've done that and its a stupid system.

Would need to be neurobound so people don't crash markets by itemforming ships they don't use anymore.

Its stupid to force people to pay RL cash for what should be an ingame service.

What about a paying feature to "limbo" your docked ships? Like 1b first time, 10b second time, 20b third time (per uni). Or even $5 for a limbo...

Charging real life money for features that should be automated ingame isn't a good practice.

The whole point of this thread is to replace the current, micropayment, system with a system which is accessible.

scaled cost limboing would be a viable if indiscriminate alternative.

Alright. You raise a good point. But neurobinding + aug destruction is utterly useless. And then how do you move your storage or any of your combat ships with good augs?

IMO, aug resets are already cheap (and they destroy the augs), there is no reason for itemforming ships to destroy augs. (so long as they are neurobound.)

Still, Towing is a much better topic to go into. I thought Jeff was kind of for lowering tow costs.

resets are different from reboots.

If you can itemform the ship while keeping the augs equipped on that ship then it would be a preferable solution.
