C2 testing
this belongs here.shawn_mccall wrote: Anywho, I think enkelin is the only one to have hit this dead on. A C2 universe means we will be paying to play at levels of stability worse than SS 5 years ago at full price just to watch it crash every 5 minutes. However, if the admins start recruiting players to extensively test certain areas, not the low level beta crap that got nothing done, then we can find and remove the vast majority of bugs before they become a problem.
So take these facets of the game.
- Nexus
- Protected Space
- DGs
- Bonnet
- Tortuga
- Blue Outpost
- Micron
- Iq' Bana
- Copper
- Snake Hole
- Lunacy
- Liberty
- Infernal Tempest
- Serengetti
- Olympus
- Infernal Darkness
- DG Ubers
- Drones
- Instancing
- Seer
- Speed Demon
- Engineer
- Shield Monkey
- Berserker
- Sniper
- Gunner
- Fleet Commander
- BvB
- PvB
- Base Building
- etc...
Organize them into content groups. Then you make 10 or so testing groups. Offer them real incentives to find problems and bugs and report them. Give them admin powers on test so they can test any set of circumstances that pops into their heads, and let them at it.
You'll find more bugs in a week than you ever have found in the past 5 years.

Re: C2 testing
You can take "The Nexus" off the list as a lot of work has already been put into it to make it more linier and friendlier to new players via missions. Give each group member a 1 or 3 month free subscription as a reward. Or give them credits or imp seals. Only problem with this is the whole player base has to be informed at the same time as the devs do about the prizes, not after

Re: C2 testing
I really dont think the issue is that they don't have the manpower to test; its that they dont have the manpower to process the feedback and make corrections. There are not enough people familiar enough with the code to actually make corrections. I think there a still a few coders in the SS playerbase that they haven't tapped yet... but with who they have, they're doing their best. ok well 75% of best

Most if not all of the volunteers deal with content.

Re: C2 testing
HAL also played before being a coding dev.
