Slightly useless but very cool looking; have planets sometimes have storms on their surface which are visible from space.

I.E. A barren world (the brown ones) would have sandstorms or sometimes ion storms.

Terran worlds would have thunderstorms, clouds, etc.

This could even be taken a step further with colony commods. If a planet has atmospheric disturbances, it's atmosphere would contract for a few seconds in a random spot around the planet, like a shield fluxing.
