it helps people who have really restrictive internet settings able to connect to the game [tunnel] and launcher can be used to help speed up a laggy game due to an older/slower hardrive by moving some of the files into ram and off the harddrive into a ramdrive. Unless you have one of those problems you won't really have much of a use for it. there are a few other tweaks and settings to fix other problems but nothing really relevant to the normal user with a proper system.

Any chance at something to assist with dual GPU cards?

Mine can't mc for shit anymore with this new card. Old ATI 5850 could do quite a few on the regular client.

chance are it would be because your new video card stopped supporting some of the much older (and deprecated), calls to directx. so instead of being done in hardware rendering, it fall back to software rendering (which use the cpu, and is much slower).

you can unlock the process affinity, it should help a bit especially if you have a triple+ cores cpu. ss1 lock the process to the first core, because otherwise, it crash (due to some threads that are not threadsafe... multicores were rare when c1 was developed lol).

you can unlock the affinity in the task manager, right click on the ssprocess then set affinity.

but expect some random crashes if its not set to cpu0.

I think MCing has improved, but not as substantial as imagined. Any other suggestions & nifty tricks?

well, there isnt any magical tricks no. but you can stabilise your clients fps by playing with the sleep bar in options (it affect all of your clients in realtime pretty much), so you dont need to change it in the other clients.

but decreasing the value, will essentially make each client artificially lag, but use less cpu, so they work better together.

Oo Ram-disk! , seriously a big help for this game, especially when you have disk spin down enabled and you encounter a new spite not loaded and freeze for 5 secs...

I have a problem with the software, every time it attempts to launch the game it fails because <DRIVELETTER>:\starsonata\star sonata.exe isnt there.
I check myself and it literally isnt. just heaps of shortcuts to other software on my pc for some..strange reason.

Eh, I will just copy stuff to the ram drive myself for now ;P. look forward to the fixed version =D.

are you sure the launcher is in the right director ? should be in starsonata/sslauncher.

if you see shortcuts in the ramdrive, its most likely because you slapped it on your desktop, so its moving your desktop to the ramdrive .

any chance you could make a SSLauncher for the C2 beta? I can't play it on my school/internship without it

yeah i get the same problem where i can't play at college without tunnel due to firewall blocking SS but not SS through the tunnel
