In your opinion. Some people like intense depth and the effort it takes to reach end-game levels (and stay there) in games.

If you don't want to optimise your real life commitments to allow maximum time for an SS event (such as reset or team Oly runs), that is fine. You can still have plenty of fun in SS without being "full-time". Also plenty of "offline" games where you can save and play whenever you want.

Well re-reading what you said above shawn, I think a week is agreeable. I might be trigger happy on the flame button when shawn is around :D

I feel loved. :)

With reference to the proposal to disable bases on unsubbed accounts, I think it would cause a loss of income to SS.

I have never used unsubbed bases to date.

1/ An account must be subbed to build a base and an account must be subbed to store base gear. That means an account must be subbed for 2/3 months of a uni.

2/ If for some reason a players account goes unsubbed and he comes back to find his bases in ruins he is much more likely to say stuff it, and leave

On balance it seems to me that it is better to get 2/3 of a sub than nothing.

Base items for rats/nukes should stay up if an account is unsubbed.

The reason why trade bays will go offline probably is because of terraforming. Terraforming allows you to have multiple colonies pumping, even with no CA, and still make money off of them.

30 colonies on 100% suit can make the owner 500b per uni. The cost to TF all those cols is maybe 50b. So each uni, with some accounts, I could make 450b profit? Kinda stupid, huh.

As for gear, 30 andaman base sets can be stored on one account. A pair of SS's can do it. Even if you had to get 2 new SS's...450b will easily cover the expense.

How do you propose to feed a base that relies on space oat / ration imports?

Unless the base is owned by a really low level, I seriously doubt the base will run out of rats before a termite attack destroys it.

And in addition, we plan on stopping all extraction and building and such for bases belonging to unsubbed p2p, so people can't just sub at the beginning of the uni and then manage the base with other chars.

There are (briefly) a few benefits of having a base:
- profit (colonies or extraction)
- defense
- building
- owning galaxy withount necessarily defending it against players (mainly connectors)

Except the last point it is easy to stop the usefullness of a base without touching it's survivability (vs. AI); I don't see (without further thinking about it) an easy solution for the last point. I also think it doesn't really matter.

Going for the solution as you described above to let the bases basically die once you're unsubbed is an idea that'll make a few people play even less and in that case they'd probably not sub at all.

Actually, people only subbing once for an entire uni directly encourages not subbing. The idea that players should not have to pay any money yet still get the benefits of a person who keeps the account subbed is a terrible business model and it ruins the economy of the game.

TL;DR, don't be a bunch of butthurt candy-asses who are sad about not being able to exploit a game.
