So I live in Alabama to start it off, so just know I need internet providers that are here.

I'm moving back home for the summer and I'm getting a job. My family is too lazy to buy a new internet, and the one we have at home is literally one of the slowest I have ever had. I think the fastest download speed I have ever had was about 150 kb/s. I need to know if there is anything I can get better that isn't too expensive. I just want something that actually doesn't give me 100+ ms on everything I do. It is wifi and I would love to have wifi that is fast, and even if I connect to our internet directly, it's the same speed. There's no change to the limit in the router so I'm not exactly sure what to do. Any help? Thanks.

Clear internet is so legit.Simple sign up, 50$ flat, no contract. I have no idea if its available in your area though.

Well Charter/ Comcast will be the fastest in your area up to 100mb, quite expensive though.

At&t you can get like 10mb or something and runs about $60 a month.

I don't know all too much, but as far as reliability, cable is less reliable than say DSL.

So for a medium sized speed and an extremely reliable connection, At&T is pretty good. I have At&T at my mothers, and Charter Cable at my dads.

Never really had an issue with either though.

As far as MB, has nothing to do with connection, but at which you download and upload things.

Also note that the advertised capacity is usually the maximum achievable bandwidth in your general area, not the average.

That highly depend on the infrastructure in your region, Cable has way more bandwidth capability than the phone line (DSL). But off course, if the cable is overloaded with tv related datas, then it wont be stable for the internet (which is lower priority in most cases).

Here the dsl limit is 7mbit/sec uncompressed (Bell Canada who own most of the telephone lines, wont allow higher than that). Where as Cable will go up to 150mbit on home connection 300mbit on business. Offcourse there is also the fiber connection, but thats a whole other story.
