Post subject:  new ability: barrel roll.

while tabbing back and forth, my ship did 3 barrel rolls.

it looked cool.

the next time the admins decide to add in something purely for the novelty, they should consider making it a part of the game (its already kinda in the game already),

maybe as a "ship ability" with a 5 second recharge that gives a 50% chance to dodge shots for the 1 second it takes to do the roll, at the cost of not being able to shoot for that 1 second

its not really a "change" to the game, but it would add some variety to combat

Maybe but I'd say only for light fighters, lol just imagine an ef dread rolling around. :P

I think that all ships should have the ability to move up on the Y axis for a limited period of time. Some classes could also extend this time available...a barrel roll could be one way to get up and out of the normal plane of activity.

lol, the ship i was flying at the time was a dread. it looked awesome.

and it was the idea of a panther doing the same thing in a SD vs SD fight was what convinced me it should be added to the game.

i mean, for C2 videos alone, it would be worth doing. it might add a few percent to the amount of players who see a vid of players fighting, and decide "i should download and play that game"

Dodging in the physical sense as in you completely avoid an attack (outside beams for the most part) is one thing. You need to work to achieve this kind of dodge. This kind is often found in flying/space combat simulators like Infinity and Black Prophecy.

Dodging in the form of chance (whether a physical or imaginary die is used) is something else entirely. You DONT need to work to achieve this kind of dodge as the game server or luck makes it work. This is kind is most often found in board or minifig wargames such as Risk and WH40k, respectively.


It would be awesome if you could dodge beams (because the machine or human doesn't aim perfectly), but thats kind of hard to simulate without having the die also present. Game like EVE can have some blend (superficially) with the physical look of guns (and laser) missing the target completely if looked at when it does.

i mean SDs usually dodge bullets anyways. when it comes to beams either they get hit or they take advantage of the crappy game mechanics and fly up the Z axis problem solved

I was thinking more along the lines of seers in bvb; with the number of bullets flying around, it's pretty easy to get pwned. But give them a recharging ability to move up on the Z axis, and they can avoid shots that are not aimed at them.
