For some reason I have to reload the map every time I log in now.

Happened to me too, but that stopped a lil while ago, no clue why.

Yup, magically went away shortly after posting. Thanks for the ninja fix.

I am losing my starmap every time I log in.

Someone mentioned "reloading" the map when you login - how?

Here's my situation - I have filed a ticket with sample maps (bxml) and screenshots so, if anyone else has found a solution, please HELP!

First, I am running SS as admin - I installed it as admin, forced the patchbot to run as admin.

I'm running XP Pro all patched and proper.

I log in and fly through wormholes, etc., when I logout (not to be confused with closing the app), a bxml file is written in the cache/starmap directory. Let's say I've flown all over the Nexus and around the Gardens and through a couple of Earthforce portals - the map file is about 4K.

As soon as I close the app, the map file is again written - and is now 1K.

Now, let's say I logout, the 4K file is written an, instead of closing the app, I log back in - the file is overwritten and is 1K.

Also, if I take that backed up 4K map file, close the app, copy the backup over the 1K CharName.liberty.starsonata.com.starmap.bxml file and fix the name, run the app (as admin) and login to SS, I see the map for about 1 second, and then it *poof* goes away completely.

Any insight you may have, especially a temp fix (again, someoe mentioned reloading the map after game start) would be helpful - I want to play without having to make pencil and paper maps - (I'm all about celebrating nerdy but, that's too much like work!)

& Thanks

I like how thorough you were with your description. What happens if you set the properties of the file as read-only before starting the client?

wouldnt that sport of suck if he scouted a new gal, and it was set to read-only?

I guess he should try that, but dock at team HQ first to get the full map.

When I set the starmap file to read only, I could tell that the app tried to update it when I logged out (I hit alt tab) into the starmap folder and watched the file flash out and then in again, same file size, same timestamp.

When I closed the app, it again tried to re-write the map file and couldn't.

When I restarted the app, the map stored in the file flashed up for a second, and then was gone.

What does this mean? Is there a command or a proccess to do this 'by hand'?

Delete the map cache in the directory.

Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't, it's really quite confusing.

So, I deleted the bxml (map) file, ran the app as admin, flew around, docked, logged out - got a 2K map file - logged back in, and the map file is untouched but I see not map (except for the galaxy I'm docked in) - the map file is still sitting there.

I log out again, without flying around anywhere, and now the map is written as a 1K file - this is consistent with earlier tests.

I have had no response to my help ticket - I cannot play this game without a map!

Is there anyone who can help me? I have been a programmer (C, C++, UNIX scripting) for AT&T, a Novell / NT / admin for the University of Michgan, a systems and security consultant for many years, and all I want is some straight talk on this if anyone can and is willing to offer it.

Otherwish, I can just (sadly) quit SS and forget about it.

As I said, I find it intermittent, usually within 5-10minutes of logging in you'll have your full map back no matter what.

That's to problem I'm having - I never get my map back - not after 10 minutes, or 2 hours.

That's strange, are you playing on the same account as the one with the map?

Different accounts have different maps saved.

Also if your team has a HQ base deployed try docking a that and then logging out and logging back in, if you dock at the HQ your map gets added to it, meaning any teammates that dock with more mapped than you add what they've mapped to it, and then if you redock then you get what they've mapped, it's pretty awesome.
