The backgrounds in the UZ kill my computer, my suggestion is to make a setting to make the backgrounds able to be toggled on or off or even remove them so that people with crap computers can go and play in the UZ

There should always be these kinds of settings in the options menu. Always.

Gives me lag on medium. Almost like it stutters. Very odd. Has to do with background.

Yes please.

6 FPS in Rhinos.

Whereas on C1, my FPS would not budge from 60, EVER!

There was a bug in the background code that could had caused this. Try the beta client see if it still happen. If it does, well, sorry to tell you but its definitly NOT the background causing it XD. The background is pretty much just 64planes with a texture, hell rendering the gui take more time than rendering a few dozens stacked background !

i tried the beta and this happend. i could move fine until everything went orange like in the picture. there's defiantly something wrong or off with the background because when it was black i didn't lag but as soon as the orange showed i lagged badly

can we get the option still to replace the UZ backgrounds with the standard star background however? while my lag is noticeably smaller the backgrounds themselves make me fill quite ill. most especially the crater level.

Post subject:  Re: Uz backrounds

I've tested UZ thoroughly because of all the reports of lag from the backgrounds and here's what I've found:

If I am playing at high or very high settings I lag out in certain levels not because of the backgrounds, but because of the amount of shooting going on. In crater highland for instance, there are a lot of clops shooting a lot of weapons and this lags me out. In levels with a ton of zebras and lions the MFing also lags me out. This however is not due to the backgrounds, which I went in and optimized to get rid of lag. For me, if I have the lag killer on it takes the shooting out and I stop lagging.

As for suggestion on the backgrounds - if you give me something concrete like "it's too bright can you tone it down a bit" (yes, I toned the backgrounds way down especially in the Lion arm) I'll see what I can do.

it does not at all, all it show is that there is a bug in uz with the background being somehow replaced with broken meshes when the lag killer kick in. It doesnt show that the source of the lag are the backgrounds

Post subject:  Re: Uz backrounds

Sorry Legno, but my lag has not to do with the shooting. I played around in second and first levels, after killing everything that moved. There was not a smooth transition of movement for my ship.

It was as if the server delayed the movement by a second, then restarted it, and over and over again until I got into Knight level.

All the while, frames was well below normal.

if you get the current beta client. you can use the built in profiler in uz. Send the result of it to dmpfile@starsonata.com (copy paste it to the mail or a .txt file whatever), and it should give us a lot more info on the lag than whatever you can tell us :P.

to use the profiler in the beta client. Get to the point where your lagging. type /dp (the first time will start it, then it will run until client restart). wait a minute, and type /dp again, a big ass edit box with a bunch of text should appear, copy paste that into the mail (or a .txt), and send it my way.
